I have this really weird personality disorder

I always want to figure something out on my own

I'll ask, if I get so frustrated I can't stand it, but....

I hate asking

Anyone else have this?

Me too. I invent my own terminology all the time

I have trouble understanding other people’s words

🀣🀣

Not sure. Do you think you could help me figure it out?

i'm pretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD so I know what you're saying, except the frustrating just makes me want to figure it out more and isn't expressed as actual frustration.

Why is ti a disorder? I like to think I am creative enough to sometimes find a new way.

Perhaps I used the wrong terminology, common vernacular

I tend to take the opposite approach. I learn as much as I can from others to avoid resolving problems that have already been solved. The frustration for me comes from wasting my time and mental energy. So my personality issue tends to be that I struggle dealing with things I view as a waste of time. It is important to sometimes try to solve problems that have already been solved. For example, completing math homework to learn the fundamentals of math. It's contextual for me. I'm cool if that's known before going on in. If someone just wants to withhold information to feel superior (I've seen this in the workplace), I get annoyed fast. I don't want to waste time in that context. Just give me the information.

I get that. Would make life easier to do it that way

But, my mind goes to learning the hard way

My life has mostly been a fight with myself. My mind goes pretty much the wrong way at every turn if left unattended πŸ˜‚ But it's only a problem if you don't like the results. I don't know why, but I developed this tendency early on. An interesting topic to think about.

some parts of OCD can manifest like that.

For me it can get me in trouble at work if I don't keep it in mind cause I'll keep working the issue instead of escalating to the next team πŸ˜…

Is the same trait as not wanting to stop and ask for directions?

Probably 🀣

If you’re patient, it’s amazing how sleeping on a problem and/or putting your subconscious onto it for a couple of days while you do other things can deliver solutions. I’ve heard it said that you should always have 10 to 15 such challenges in the back of your mind at all times, and have your amazing God-given processor crunching them in the background.

Sleeping is my way of letting Jesus take the wheel, so to speak. I'm a different religion but I know he'd forgive me.

That sounds exhausting 😡

The idea is to not actually be dedicating conscious thought to it which would be exhausting. Just stick it in there and let the other part of your brain deal with it

Same here bro πŸ«‚

Yes, I'm very much the same Fren 🌞

Yes! Must be a soap maker thing!

Yes. I have many weird personality disorder. Nostr helps. You are just fine brother no worries πŸ’œπŸ«‚

All day every day. It's almost a problem, but because things always work out, I never change my ways. And often things work out better, so I'm not even incentivized to change.

I would not label it as personality disorder.

People learn differently. There is nothing wrong figuring it out on your own first. If you have unlimited time then iterate as often as you want. But if you have finite time then balancing when to ask for guidance vs doing it on your own is something you have to experience in time. I'd ask, what is the pay-off asking others? Is it time or cost effective? Either way you are right. πŸ‘Œβ˜ΊοΈ

My daughter is just like that. We just let her cook. She figures it out most of the time.
