Also I try to boost responsibly out of respect for my followers time and attention budget. Does this have value? Is it something that some of my followers may not have seen yet? Or do I have something thoughtful to add to it as a quote post?
I boost to make a good note reach more people, and quote to add my own two sats about the note. That's my general rule of thumb.
The hard part for me is whether I should quote a note, or just leave my response to it as a reply to the note. The line for that is blurrier.

That last part depends on whether you're looking to join a discussion or start a new discussion. If you reply you'll definitely end up in the OP's notifications. If you quote post, it's like 50/50 in some clients and zero in others whether or not the OP will see that in their notifications. But your followers are more likely to see it in their feed.
