Using a laptop to take notes in a professional setting is often perceived as not paying attention. You want to make someone feel like you are hung on every word? Use a pen. There’s still a perceived difference in attention no matter what information you are capturing.

Nothing makes a speaker feel more heard than eye contact and feverous handwriting. 🖊️

Eye contact certainly is important!

I use a Supernote eink note book. Feels like paper, all my note books in one place, fully searchable!!!

Love the look of it - I order the same notebook from Europe every year. It’s become a sort of scrapbooking I really enjoy

This is so cool! I use a remarkable which I love and it does wonders for me, but seems like it has more features.

yeah somehow people really love it when you say "hold on a minute, I gotta write that down"

It all depends on the context and the person. Some see a pen as a sign of attention, while others understand that a laptop is just a more efficient tool for taking notes. The real difference is in the attitude: you can write with a Montblanc and still not absorb anything, or type on a keyboard and deeply process every word. What matters is being present, not the tool you use.

Sure - of course attentive listening is the key for the note taker. My point is not that the pen takes better notes, but that it is often met with the perception of more attention being given.
