I really don't understand how so many freedom-loving and privacy-respecting people using Nostr ignore #Monero in favor of Bitcoin.

I've used Monero to send to individuals, to pay for VPNs, to buy a Pixel phone (with GrapheneOS), to buy ebooks, to tip waitresses, and more. It's dirt cheap to send and it's private -- no one can see who sent how much to whom. It's truly like digital cash. It needs no "lightning network."

I assume BTC's popularity here comes from its quick rise in value (in relation to the dollar).

What's more important: fast wealth or privacy?

I will never have to worry about people seeing how much crypto is in my wallet (could lead to physical threats), or taxing my "unrealized gains" (could be financially devastating), or tracking my crypto spending (invading my privacy).

In your "freedom," don't be taken by greed for wealth. That's not true freedom.

What about zcash? looks even more private...

I don't know enough about it to comment. I've heard good and not-as-good things about it. But at least they're trying to do it right. Monero just happens to be bigger and has the network effect: most users.

Do you also run your own monero node, or do you just use lightwallets? Im looking for a good solution to test out a full note at home + phone wallet that connects to the node...

I don't have the resources to support the full node. I have a computer that originally ran on Windows 7.

I use Feather Wallet on Linux desktop and Cake Wallet & Monerujo on GrapheneOS phone.

Running a monero node is super easy. Best to do it via Tor.

Can you recommend a good adroid wallet that would connect to your node then?

I run a pruned node with rpc over a tor hidden service for NAT traversal. Works great.

Shielded z2z transactions are more private

But good luck finding merchants who accepts Zcash let alone one that offers shielded addresses. There are a handful but it's mostly a transparent t address ecosystem. No p2p markets really exist either I've tried looking and asking zcashers, but let me know if you find one.

Once Monero has FCMP++, equivalent to a default shielded z2z, not sure what else Zcash will be able to offer that Monero can't.

Their Tachyon project looks kind of cool if it comes to fruition

Monero leaks a lot of information if you're not careful.

The leaks he's talking about will get fixed in October after years of research. Which means STN is just late to the bashing party. Could have come up with these insights 5 years ago. This gas been known for a long time and mitigation strategies have been proposed to those who need more than average protection.

I was gonna copy-paste the same speech to you, but substitute the word “Bitcoin” for “Mullvad”, and “Monero” for HydraVeil.net

I agree!

BTC dropped the ball, XMR is the true cryptocurrency in terms of what a cryptocurrency is supposed to be.

I just buy drugs with monero. And sometimes porn

Why?

To get high and jerk off

That's a waste of your time and harmful. You have a purpose in this life. Don't waste it.

The time i spent triggering you just paid off 💃

Triggered? I don't know what that's supposed to mean in this context. I'm just telling you the truth, in case you're willing to take your eternal life seriously.

If heaven it real they sure smoke pot up there, ask jesus https://fountain.fm/episode/RTADDdHqHlrP2ZDe90eC

> What's more important: fast wealth or privacy?

Sound money is what's important. Privacy is too, but is mutually exclusive with the ability to audit the blockchain, which supports confidence in its soundness. The only way you can get both is through a second layer solution (or maybe by proving your system doesn't have an inflation bug, which is hard with asymmetric cryptography).

Also, my understanding is that monero has scaling limitations just like bitcoin does, which means transactions may not always be cheap. Monero's privacy is also not an absolute guarantee. This podcast was very good on understanding how difficult privacy and scaling are: https://fountain.fm/episode/1LiBxWAojDCBm1pGFhGd

I will give it a listen. Thanks.

Monero scales worse in regards to resources to run a node vs Bitcoin. But it scales better than Bitcoin in regards to number of transaction and transaction fees because of dynamic blocksize. More transactions =/= higher fees on Monero.

FCMP++ upgrade is well in motion and will fix Moneros relatively weaker sender privacy with ring signatures discussed in this podcast. Amount and receiver privacy is already very strong.

I don't get it either, maybe its the lack of monero integration in nostr.
