This is the kind of stuff that needs to be fixed before whatever new stuff is being built.

i have written many spaghettis in my life but never very big ones and i tend to get really antsy about the spaghettification - but what is usually done when you make a big spaghetti is you throw it out and try to start again, usually by piecing it back together again

what most nostr devs are doing is making one big spaghetti after another, instead of trying to fix it

the psychology is simple to understand: spaghetti is very hard to unravel, and the incentives are that if they make a new spaghetti they keep getting paid

there is no quality discipline in the grants process so this is how people do it - they are just doing what amounts to make work, and that's why me and nostr:npub1l5sga6xg72phsz5422ykujprejwud075ggrr3z2hwyrfgr7eylqstegx9z are always saying that opensats et al are like a communist bureaucracy, their only goal is to keep the donors coming, so their jobs are secured, and the devs they pay, are doing the same thing

Yes, there's no quality incentive in the grants process. No nonfunctional requirements in the agreements, no acceptance test phase, no maintenance contract, nothing.

Just vibe some flashy crap together, toss it to the long-suffering users, grab the money and run.

Anytime something solid is produced, it's despite the grants process, not because of it.

There was a void. We're filling it.

Go fix it then

No.

I'm not a coder. I will never be. I will just complain in a snarky fashion until the douche crew capitulates or is humiliated into QA/QC compliance.

Your snarkiness is plain toxicity. Same for some members of your douche crew. Birds of a feather flock together.

As you see it. Sure. And I do. And we will.

Generally, I don't care. Why? We are already winning. Our products are barely starting to come together and yet they already work better and more reliably than most of the stuff that's been around for years at this point. We've identified weaknesses, flaws, and just awful code. We have a more comprehensive plan to "build it ourselves." We are more driven by dedication to improvement than anyone else I've seen thusfar.

I'm confident that competence will reign supreme in the near future. Past the hype. Further than the hopium. Beyond the big money.

And gosh, my dude... If you are so bent out of shape by snark at this point... How do you function as an adult? I'm actively not being toxic. Granted, I do and will rub people the wrong way, but that's because I'm brilliantly sarcastic. 🤷‍♂️😎😁

You know, that's exactly what I kept being told.

You don't like the bug?

Send a PR.

Build your own.

Learn to code.

Why should anyone take developers seriously as suppliers of a product, if that is the response they receive?

There's this attitude that FOSS is better software, but software alone is useless. Only service matters. Free software that I can't get to work effectively and efficiently, doesn't actually exist as a product, for me. It's a curiosity. It actually costs me time and money to fix and struggle to use it. It's "data garbage" or a mere "Gedankenexperiment" as the Germans say.

It's cheaper for me to pay for something that actually works, where there is someone caring about helping me, on the other end.

Interesting thread ! I am split ..

I love #nostr devs .. they are young and ambitious.. nothing wrong in building fast, leaving few things to oldies to crib about :-) .

And of course , complaining is part of the dev process .. it is the real quality check ! 🙂 .. don't mince words .. say it !

Nostr gets better ..

I keep forgetting to remove this bot. One minute...

Bots lives matter ! 😔

Oh, it's on a different relay, nevermind.
