Hell, we all defeated the USSR during the Cold war. Multiple times, including Afghanistan. The USSR simply fell apart rather than firing off a single nuke.
There's a good chance that due to economic hardship and internal corruption Russia's nuclear weapons don't even work. And obviously, we have nukes too, and western countries have made clear that they consider any nuclear attack on Ukraine to be a nuclear attack on all of Europe: fallout.

Good point with Chechnya and Afghanistan but it is hard for me to believe that nuclear weapons were ever an option back then, as it's the case today. If we ever get to that point, every one loses..
There is a lot wrong with making money to provide a service when the people you are paying are using those funds to commit large scale genocides.

Corruption doesn't do much to reduce the strength of a government, on the contrary, it often strengthens it. I am entirely unconvinced by this. You seem to not understand the basic economics of the Soviet Union.
