If Bob is publishing a client and you're using Bob's client, it's not a horrible idea to assume Bob will also do a reasonable job defining that.
But of course Bob can also delegate that job to someone else or to some algorithm -- and by using Bob's client you would be tacitly agreeing that that was a better choice.
Some people are just obviously important though.

I’d be in favor of removing “follower count” and “followed by” all together, entirely. It’s harder to stay humble when you know who’s following you that “are important”, and how many people are following you.
Follow me based on my content, follow me based on my ratio of replies to posts (showing engagement with others), but don’t follow me based on who else is following me. I’m not that important…and neither are they 😂
