Bringing this truck to the US may be a necessary move by the Trump admin as it re-shores manufacturing and tries to build back the middle class.

Business owners being able to buy a $10k truck instead of one for $120k would be massive for businesses.

He could slap a 25% tariff on it and it would still be incredibly beneficial to the US economy.

10k truck, sign me up

After all the required regulatory addons (e.g. backup cameras, TPMS, seatbelt reminders, automatic e-braking), I wonder if these would end up more like $18-$20k

Exactly, he can say it is safe and it probably is better than many older vehicles still daily driven. It doesn't meet the various requirements to be sold new in the US. If it did Toyota would sell it here because they know they would print money with it.

The problem is that US regulations for new vehicles make them expensive and complicated.

fuck the tarrif.

all we need is for the fat bloated government to get out of the way, and we could build one.

I agree. I want minimal computers and it to be repairable. Shouldn't take too long to get one of the big plants in the us making these if they loosened restrictions.

YES! I want a US company to be able to build this. The only reason they can't are all the ridiculous regulations.

Want.

Would buy at least 3 for my company.

I’d buy 2, especially if I could get them with 4WD… light duty is fine, good for day to day driving and farm chores, picking up some lumber etc. Could borrow a friend’s F450 or Freightliner and a trailer for big runs…

I need this right now shiddd

I’d buy one tomorrow.

That stupid chicken tax has got to go. We need more light trucks like this in the US. I would buy one.

That's a great idea. You can do so many side hustles with a $10,000 truck. Why spend 10x more for that opportunity?

No tarrifs, free markets.

Hell yeah. & it’s a Toyota. Built to last tbh.

Lol, any car maker can build it anywhere in the world. Its just matter of regulations.

People wonder why quality has gone down over time with consumer products. Planned obsolescence.

it can be easily $5k if US government allows any Chinese car marker to enter freely.

It took me half an hour to de-Google the Silverado Elevation they gave me for work and personal. And this truck has been back to the dealership three times for critical recalls. Two weeks ago I zipped home for lunch and as I pulled up and parked I got a message on the display saying that there was a software update pending for the fuel injection system. It said “hit accept to start the update”, then displayed a warning that the vehicle would be undriveable during the approximately 15 minutes it would take. Man I’d be pissed as a consumer if I dropped 80-100k on a truck and it wasn’t even really mine to use without permission from a server somewhere. I’m sure this thing could still be shut down remotely with what firmware I can’t disable.

wow and it has all these available optional configurations that bring the grand total to 15k - food truck, RV, etc - your leaders HATE YOU.

time to start hating back:

Hell even with a 100% tariff that things a deal

manufacture it in the USA and it will cost 25k minimum.

do we not understand that with free market capitalism, the companies find the best/cheapest places to manufacture goods?

I believe he is not talking about manufacturing them here but importing them even with tarrifs because of the low price point

Im curious if it complies with all the smog/pollution rules here in the states? If not, I can’t understand why it’s not sold here. And if it doesn’t comply, maybe we should end the smog regulations that make these cars so complicated and expensive

That’s a great idea! We should adopt an American first approach regarding our smog production, no one should be allowed to pollute as much as us 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I would absolutely buy one!!

After my experience with an electric vehicle that was decked out with every software based feature imaginable and seeing how unreliable everything was, I have been wondering a lot when something like this would hit in the US.

A no frills, purely mechanical vehicle that just works day in and day out. You literally can't get that in the market today unless you buy something 10+ years old.

I'd LOVE to see an American company step up and start building stuff like this. I genuinely believe that as software encroaches on more aspects of our life, a growing group of people will start to reject it. Many people in my personal circle are already going this way.

would cop in a heartbeat

I’d have it in an instant. I need a work truck really bad

The demand shock would be otherworldy, I know so many working dudes who want one

Yes I'd want one. All vehicles are too expensive right now. I'm out here still driving a car from 91 and a minivan from 04 and I dread the day I cannot fix them anymore because anything newer is too expensive for "features" I don't want.

This one is being sold at around USD 10.000

Fiat Siena 2015 - 100.000 km

Access to a truck like that would significantly change capital allocation in a lot of medium size businesses. The lower cost is great up front , but over the life of the vehicle the insurance savings would pay for it compared to those $100k trucks.

We don't need collision avoidance and lane following. We need dependable serviceable vehicles we can use to keep people employed.

Yes the price of vehicles is nuts we are rebuilding the engine in our 2000 Toyota Avalon

Here’s why you can’t have one

Americans deserve this option!!
