#Zapvertising is great, until it becomes spammy. I believe that users should have a choice in deciding how much their attention is worth. Is it 100 sats? 1000 sats? 1 sat? That's up to the individual. Thanks for pointing this out, nostr:npub1ew4nntskh08fzkwjusrc9u5627g639c5z6udc4q3a3plr9ns4naqxp6qlf 🤙🏻

I like it. This is great, man. Hopefully some other clients follow after you get this rolled out.

Had the idea the other day for a NIP and/or app enabling users to set rates for nostr actions, extending zapvertising beyond just a message in a lightning payment.

E.g. 1000 sats for a repost, 10k for a follow etc. Allow sellers to selectively accept offers from buyers.

Naturally, popular accounts could set higher rates. A win-win, as sellers earn sats for interacting, and buyers can pay to increase exposure.

Not really sure on the technical implementation - probably would need some way to hold sats in escrow between offer and acceptance

Nah. It's never been great Derek. It's just advertising with the word "zap" in front of it. My time and attention is worth protecting. I will gladly pay for clients, relays, etc. to never see a "zapvertisement" in my notifications.

I second that! I came here to escape ads from the traditional social media model

The models are entirely different, for now. We'll eventually have fully ad supported relays and clients here. It's only a matter of time. The difference between here and traditional platforms is that we have a choice to migrate to a different client and or relay.

And that's your opinion and your choice.

Yes, it is. But to call it 'great', or this wonderful advancement that is going to change the way people/platforms interact is a misnomer. In my opinion.

Agree. Great is again an opinion. I think they're great over previous advertising models.

One difference is that “zapvertising” pays you directly, whereas traditional online advertising only pays the platform. That said, the 1, 2, 3 sat zap ads can die and those who send them go to hell as far as I’m concerned. They’re not worth the time it takes to sift through my notifications for meaningful interactions. However, if I could set a minimum threshold before someone is allowed to include a message with a zap, or some other criteria like being a follower, etc, then it puts me in control and the advertiser can decide if my attention is worth what I’m asking for it.

Hard to give one blanket number because I am more okay giving attention to someone I follow, for instance, than I am with giving it to advertisers. Ideally the amount could be set different depending on whether or not I follow the account. If I follow an account I would be okay with them including messages in any zaps 100 sats and above. If I don’t follow an account, anything 1000 sats and above.

Even better would be a default amount, and then let me adjust it on a per account basis. So maybe I’m okay with you sending me zap messages of any size zap, so I’d remove the restriction on your profile in my settings.

What advertiser is going to dole out more than a few cents, for people who may not even have their notifications turned on? Or, without knowing what their threshold is set to?

Their problem, not mine. They’ll know when their campaign flops or succeeds. Ad blockers already exist and many people run them, and yet companies still advertise online.

not only that, what if i could customise the amount of sats that somebody can zap my note with, when they want to include an additional and/or what if there was a verification process for this?

let’s say somebody zapped above my designated limit and linked something gore etc. that i wouldn’t want to be associated with my note

I agree with this and think LNURL Pay needs extended with a field like minSendableComment

Where are you all even seeing these zapvertising notifications that are so annoying? I have to actually go looking to find them.

I don't find them annoying at all. I see them in Thunderhub or Zeus if I take the time to try and find them. I don't mind them one but. Woot free sats!
