I’ve been interested in getting into HAM radio.

How much does it cost to get into ham radio?
That’s a big it depends. What kind of range do you want. Do you want local line of sight or do you want ability of world wide grid down comms. Testing is about $15 and the 10 year license is $35 to the FCC.

It’s definitely a rabbit hole you can spend years playing with and still never get bored. I was able to get up to extra class in about a year, #[3] is studying for her General now. Our two girls love taking to Santa and I spend a lot of time chasing Parks On the Air or listening in on the Hurricane watch net in the fall.

I've always been curious about trying ham, but it seemed to be a very niche thing. Whereas with the net (and particularly now with #Nostr), I can reach basically anyone.
Any hams here on Nostr? Would you still recommend it? Do you still meet cool folks on the airwaves?
