BOOMERS aka OLD PEOPLE!

This question is for you.

What podcasts, audiobooks, or video content have you used to learn Bitcoin? And what would recommend to folks your age?

🟠💊 my parents slowly. They would like to learn more.

Thanks!

Somewhere, there is always the greatest tragedy unfolding…and somewhere else, the greatest triumphs…but an awful lot of stuff happens in hospitals. It’s not an easy place to be. But it is a good reminder to love the life you have.

This is #[6]

preposterous…

🤣 in all seriousness my parents hold a tiny amount of sats for the first time but still don’t understand much about it. I offered a 100% back on their purchase if the held for 1 month which was today. They are game for trying to learn more, mostly due to my convictions.

I got really, really close with my pops. He finally got it, but then was…”meh I’ll be dead before the total USD collapse.”

Also figures he already has enough land, antibiotics, and guns/bullets. 3/4 ain’t bad I suppose.

Should never forget we made it this far.

Haha! Ten years in bitcon and I still have trouble answering this question. I should probably write my own book.

My first "a-ha!" moment came from watching videos of Andreas Antonopoulos. It was hard to find good content at the time, so I mostly lurked on the r/bitcoin subreddit and Bitcoin Talk forums, and tried to make sense of it all. Of course, I thought I was late, and felt like I had a lot of catching up to do. I also watched #[6] on YouTube, and found my way to local meetups to try to meet bitcoiners in person.

I recommend that everyone read Inventing Bitcoin by Yan Pritzker, and follow it up with The Blocksize War by Jonathan Bier both read by #[7] – and while you're at it, subscribe to the Bitcoin Audible podcast, where you'll hear excepts from all of the best bitcoin content as well as his own hot takes, which are always enlightening. If you just start there, you will organically find your way to other great resources.

Your parents might also enjoy listening to The Price of Tomorrow by #[8] which is less of a book about bitcoin, and more about how how technological progress leads to deflation, but bitcoin still plays an important part.

It's hard to not get really excited and start pelting people with information, but remember that not everyone is in the place where you want them to be, and they will need to come around to this discovery on their own. You can't force it.

#[9] write me a summary of this post, love you buddy

GenZ and their dag nab it AI. Back in my day we had to google and ear h YouTube for answers like real men

💯

There's no boomers here

Andreas Antonopoulos' Mastering Bitcoin and his videos certainly had a huge impact on me in my early days with orange coin. I still reference some of his videos today. Private key management for example and "a swiss bank in your pocket".

Everything else came with experiences over the years I guess. It's a journey A never ending one. I still learn things today. Every day.

Andreas was crucial for me. His videos are plenty, ranging from short to long. Still listen to him time to time.

Ugh. That’s a tough one. I’m technically genx and in InfoSec so take that for what is worth. Also of the opinion that you can’t 🍊💊. Maybe plant an orange seed. It’s up to them to take the pill.

Mom is in the silent generation and some siblings are boomers….

Creature From Jekyll Island. Maybe Secrets of the Federal Reserve, but haven’t read that yet. 4th turning, sovereign individual, WTF happened in 1971 site, Price of Tomorrow. Notice very little bitcoin in these books. Ultimately depends on how well you know the audience and whether they’d be perceptive.

After that I may suggest a few old Antonopoulos, bitcoin standard, layered money, some of the What is Money podcast, or the recent WBD podcast beginners series with American HODL, Harry Sudock, & Held.

Those are all going to my list. What if any would be the Bitcoin for dummies? Like explaining the iPhone to your grandma 👵

I’d listen to all three of those WBD podcasts I mentioned and decide if one or more would resonate with the person. Maybe recency biased on my part, but I liked them because it was three fairly different voices being asked similar questions.

I’d suggest 1 and 2 to liberty-minded people. I’d send the Dan Held episode to fiat-focused that will need to speculate and hold before they figure it out. He doesn’t get into ideology so much, and that’s preferable to get past some people’s blind spots.

I really do love it when people say the words “I just can’t unsee it.”

It’s funny how you start to look at everything through Proof of Work eyes afterward.

If your parents are the type to analyze and discuss, Mandibles is a good story that puts a mirror up against the current state of economic affairs and shows a plausible path to hyperinflation and economic collapse. It explains how this sort of collapse happens gradually then suddenly. The collapse happens in front of everyone's eyes yet most don't notice or admit it until its far too late.

Sets the stage for why Bitcoin.

They are not that type lol. But thank you for the response. That book is on my list now!

In terms of financially focused books, it's a relatively easy read. At it's core, it's a work of fiction. It's got a good compelling story so even if there's no post mortem discussion, it's still an entertaining story and maybe SOME of the underlying lessons will sink in subconsciously lol

What Bitcoin did with Peter McCormack is good. Not all guests resonate with older people but drills down on a wide variety of topics with people from both sides of the fence. Interviewed some progressives of late.

Peter was one of the first podcasts I listened to entering the space. Quality stuff!
