The need for a Nostr-native payment interface for mobile apps

What if users could choose their wallet and enjoy native payments directly in the app? Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) makes that possible. NWC allows users to pair any wallet and pay natively in any Nostr app. Users don’t have to switch contexts anymore and open another app. The exchange of payment information (e.g. the Lightning invoice and payment receipt) happens over the Nostr protocol.

Zaps, lightning payments on Nostr, are incredibly popular. Users send several thousands of payments every day to each other. Now, NWC removes the last hurdles. Unstoppable zapping for users will be the consequence. It has never been easier to send and receive real value within apps in a peer-2-peer manner.

But if these additional commands are supposed to be widely adopted, they would need to be in their own NIP anyway. And with a key not tied to any identity I believe the metadata leak is not that important.

Game-changing for me.

I'm not seeing Zaps in my transactions yet for Alby, but no more hopping over to strike (or any app) to verify my zap payments.

Seamless zapping enjoyment.

You guys are gonna bust my zap budget.

I don't see zap transactions showing up in my Alby tx list, but the balance does adjust at the speed of lightning.

Will tx history presumably come soon too?

The ideal wallet integration (imo) has landed… As a user I don’t want to have a balance in every app I use. And as a dev, I want to focus on the core value prop of my apps, not on wallet dev. This could be what the future of app interoperability looks like on Nostr.
