My husband is driving to the bank to try to sort out ongoing issues with wire transfers to our own account in Egypt.

We used to transfer with no issues but lately they have been blocked. And they don’t make it clear where it was blocked, so we have to talk to banks on both sides and triangulate where the issue is. It could be related to Egypt’s ongoing currency crisis since they’ve been doing some capital controls, but we don’t know yet.

And in the meantime we’ve been sending money via a remittance service instead, which is about 5x more expensive in terms of fees.

Fiat system is going great. Keep it up guys. Absolutely nothing to disrupt here.

Sounds like a good application for no KYC Bitcoin.

The fiat system:

IF ONLY THERE WAS A SOLUTION

License to operate.

Good luck !

Is it not possible to sell bitcoin in Egypt?

Illegal

Yeah, I guess islam is not big on individualism and anarchy.

The best you can do is guess

Although, it used to be, I think. Until anglo-saxons arrived.

I read this survival book once and supposedly only 2/10 people are 'get up and go', the rest 8/10 wait to be rescued. People have been found dead, still strapped in their plane seat after a crash, died waiting to be rescued. I think this is what we are seeing en masse right now right before our very eyes.

Maybe move to a civilized country.

Hi Lyn, I’m a fan. Listened to you be interviewed several times, bought your book, etc.

In my experience, oftentimes highly intelligent and experienced people such as yourself have so much information that you end up hamstringing yourself. Go trade some fiat for Bitcoin and give it to someone who can trade bitcoin for EGP or whatever you need.

I don’t let my employees come to me with problems unless they also bring a solution and I’m holding you to the same standard.

I’m sorry you are having problems with bank wires. Now tell me how you fixed the problem using bitcoin.

Bitcoin is illegal in Egypt which will make many afraid to use it.

This is exactly what I’m talking about. Don’t tell me why you can’t. Tell me how you can. Maybe there are more steps, idk.

"Don't come to me with problems, come to me with solutions" is one of my least favourite corporate bullshit sayings. If I've got a solution, I wouldn't need to go to anyone at all!

Some people are problem solvers and some are not. Generally speaking, those that can solve problems get farther in life than those that can only take direction.

This is .00001%

For the average American consumer they do not encounter this and don't have a care in the world. Venmo works!

It would be great if Bitcoin or one of the L2 payment systems was an option.

Your post is attracting a lot of attention.

How about using btc to transfer that money

The Egypt banks work with bitcoin exchanges?

maybe i should go back to my home country of Ukraine, get drafted, and then complain why i can't buy the things i like in some frozen trench and conclude it must be Fiat at fault.

or you could get a clue and realize that Egypt is a 3rd world country and things aren't supposed to work in any way shape or form in the 3rd world.

Maybe you should…

Amen.

Why are you not using bitcoin in the first place to avoid this problem all together?

Banks are no longer fit for purpose

situations like this are so much more infuriating now that the ease of bitcoin has spoiled me.

Not a shill for the company and I'm sure this will draw the ire of a few maxis but I've used this company before when other means haven't been practical. If it's of help it might save a few $ on fees and time if you're not already familiar with this company.

Went through this w/ my daughter who was traveling in Romania, but VISA/Credit Card services had adopted a new “security” service that only existed sometimes in some countries, but no one I could get on the phone recognized it in the US. It was a joke, and honestly, Bitcoin didn’t solve it either.

The world of Money is Unravelling. We’re all orphaned.

If you cannot transfer your money freely, then it is not your money but a social credit.

Why?, why would someone w your deep insight into BTC still be even remotely trying to use tradfi for this instead of helping the “opt out” transition by instead educating those on the other end in Egypt on how they need and can opt out of fiat and receive BTC, USDT etc. instead?

Why not put it on BTC and if you need to turn it into fiat, do it at an exchange and forward it? Makes no sense to keep fighting the banks. This is the exact reason why I got into Bitcoin, as I experienced this exact thing, that is not really new. Bitcoin is the solution to this problem i have been having for a long time.

My normal reaction to a situation like this:

😂😭😂😭😂😭😂😭

Dealt with similar when trying to fund a refugee’s schooling in Kenya that my girlfriend was working with. Chase blocked the wire, USB blocked the wire, even Western Union blocked it. Finally wired to her Brazilian account then to Kenya from her account and with the Real/Shillong conversion each $1200 transfer was ~$10%.

But this did slow and disrupt the terrorism of a Somali orphan attending a girls’ school off the refugee camp.

USA USA USA

I spoke with the principal about bitcoin at that time. They were interested but not ready. Curious how that would go now 4 years later.

Bitcoin fixes this ⚡

Have you tried Wise? Has worked very well for me in many countries (have not tried Egypt though)
