Are computer viruses even a thing anymore? I raw dog torrents for years and feel like I never get infected.

In the limewire days I would get a virus basically daily

Wouldn’t know. Don’t use a PC regularly 😆

Lol. The zoomers will never know the risk of:

limp_bizkit-break_stuff(2).mp3

😂

“My fellow Americans…”

The network effect of torrents does that. Established trust for the magnet hash.

Did native anti virus software improve or something?

Wait. JOHN MCAFEE HAS ENTERED THE CHAT

As mentioned already I think torrents have a network effect of trust and stick around to be singled out. Random files on line wire didn’t have this.

Also, phishing attempts against sales people with local admin on their PC are more lucrative.

Limewire was fun

1. Are you on Windows?

2. "Viruses" have switched to the survival side. They do infect silently. They do not interfere with everyday life and in most cases they do not "infect" userspace files & only infect systems.

I am a Linux boy

This makes you a hot Command Line Hero

I still scan (or checksum) every single download. Haven’t come across an infected file in years.

I think native anti-virus software may have improved. I think Windows had no choice but to get a handle on it. It was a selling point for Apple PCs and laptops. I remember when there were news segments on the latest computer virus. One of those viruses infected all of our school computers in high school, so our computer lab was shut down for a few days. However, I’m not expert and avoid doing things online that increase my risk of getting a computer virus (eg torrenting).
