I don't think it would be Nostr. The lightning network carries the zaps so it may be the wallet. I have had payments fail because no route could be found to the recipient

Alby's custodial wallet is defunct in 2 days, I think. Might be that.
Check their lightning address (i.e see their profile page). That will tell you which provider they use - e.g. Primal.
