I had a dream last night that I explained something to someone & they in turn explained something to me. They then handed me a piece of paper with some writing on it. I read it. There was a symbol and an explanation of what the symbol meant. I woke up & immediately had an epiphany about something relatively unrelated to the context of the dream. Super weird but wow, dreams are neat. 😊
Can you read text in dreams?
I have trouble reading text in dreams and in fact it's one of the surest signs that I'm dreaming
I've read that it is common to see jarble instead of words. I couldn't really recall ever seeing text in dreams but I've had a couple recently that were very distinct.
very rarely, it's one of the keys to knowing how to go lucid is recognising the way dream text is like constantly crawling lines of gibberish
having said that on one occasion i had a really vivid dream where i saw my computer screen suddenly register a new message in an IRC chatroom... i couldn't read it of course but i got up and turned on the monitor and lo and behold, someone messaged and i didn't have audio alerts on
btw, that's also an interesting thing about AI image manglers - they don't render text correctly either, it's just lines of gibberish much of the time - probably the mechanism of AI image mangling is close to the mechanism involved in dreams - they are actually a product of a process of transferring short term (daily, not immediate attention) memories into your long term memory, via the hippocampus
Yeah, I read about that a while ago so I started playing with including text in images and it was definitely hit and miss 😅

I can't recall if I've ever read text in a dream. It's probably happened at times I've spent a lot of time reading IRL. I should keep a look out for it.
Now that you mention it, I’m not sure if I have either. But since your brain is creating the image, it’s wouldn’t really be text but the interpretation of text, right? Kind of a difficult concept to describe.
I'm curious if it's really that uncommon to be able to read or if its a matter of relevance to other things going on in the mind. The couple I have had recently lead me to this theory that the nonsense text experienced in dreams is more like text in peripheral vision... I don't know if that makes sense 😂

I can, but if I purposefully try to read text in dreams, I just sorta adlib entire passages of text. I'm surprisingly good at it while asleep, but my lucid dreaming has its limits.
Interesting. I can't recall if many of my dreams have included text (aside from recently). The dreams that have stuck with me for the duration definitely have not.
