I’m getting pretty close to buying a Google Pixel 6a device, but I have a few questions. #asknostr

1. Does it matter what carrier the phone is locked to if I only plan to use it on WiFi?

2. Does installing #GrapheneOS affect that lock at all (i.e. does the phone become unlocked)?

3. If I decide to use the stock Android OS, would I be able to use nostr:nprofile1qqsz5jpeqcqrlpa98naqe74wdzngja4npj06z26kfu5wvzpkclmutegpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqpzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68ytnzv9hxgtgj77f despite the carrier lock?

I would go with a newer model… 8a or later to guarantee timeline on security updates stated by Graphene

I agree 👍 I have the 6 and security updates are going to be running out ... Upgraded as well .

This 👆👆 6A only has 15 months of support remaining

Also recommend a newer device if you can get it.

Unlocked is better just in case you want to add a silent.link or other esim someday. I have a locked pixel 3 that I got by accident, and it's strictly wifi only because of that. I don't know LN eSIM, but silent has been my data carrier for years, no problem.

I figured unlocked was better. I got a good deal on a locked 6a and I’m ok with being WiFi only, so that works out.

I used it on a pixel 5 and now a pixel 8, both with graphene 💪 but it'll do well on any unlocked, esim compatible phone. Maybe if you get the locked phone you can visit or call the carrier to unlock it 🤔

Nice. Good idea. Might be worth a shot. 😎

Good resource to get into the privacy rabbit hole ...I would not get the brand new pixels with "AI ships"... Take your time to study all alternatives https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYVU6rModlGxvJbszCclGGw

LineageOS is great too!!!
