I remember when I came to US and started attending school, we had to say the pledge of allegiance every morning in class. I thought it was weird af. It took me many years later to fully grasp the indoctrination kids were put through in the public school system. It’s brainwashing to pledge allegiance without understanding what it is you are actually saying and why you’d pledge anything to anyone or to any nation. And to think that this is what kids had to say EVERY DAY… 🤯

Yeah, in hindsight it’s pretty wild. It was optional in my school but pretty much everyone did it
We used to pray to the cross and sing the national anthem when I was a kid. Don't think they still do this. I know they removed the cross from some classrooms because it's discriminating other religions and don't think they still do the anthem either. not sure though
same. except due to religious reasons i had an exception and didnt have to recite the pledge. still had to stand and be silent and respectful /not interrupt the cult which i think taught me a degree of tolerance or patience
Just reminded me there were companies that would have their workers sing their company song before work too. 😂
Might even still be some.
😮
Wen Nostr Song? 🤣
I pledge allegiance to this protocol and to the principles for which it stands 🤣
this will have to do
Gross
But I'm guessing society was much more cohesive at that time, and people weren't so divided?
I did the same.
Having a pledge like that can be good and positive too if it’s worded differently. Something like the student morning pledge in Singapore:
“We, the citizens of Singapore,
pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society based on justice and equality so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.”
And they rarely would teach the origin and many grew up thinking that it went back to founding days of the country instead of the truth that it was actually a marketing campaign by a flag manufacturer to sell flags to schools and the current variant was created by President Eisenhower to help unify America against the communist Soviet Union
As military officers we swore to defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I always thought this was a pretty good way to think about my job.
Singing and standing for the National Anthem and military flyovers and all of the U.S. government worship fulfills the same role at sporting events for adults today. It's even paid for by the military (with taxpayer money, of course).
It's a prayer to the all-powerful state
The religion of The State has been fed to us since birth as if it’s impossible to live life without it.
