Often "fantasized" or "daydreamed" about making something like this. Don't laugh jack but, magnifying glass - you know, focused on a transparent glass container with a steel plate at the bottom.
The beam heats the steel plate, boils the water, then the vapor goes beneath an inverted cone shaped lid, which then has a collector which pipes it to another container.
Only problem is the MG has to follow the movement of the sun...

100%. I'm in a hard water part of the UK and after about 10 uses the bottom is thick with limescale.. Water distilled from it makes the best cups of tea though!
You think return on investment would be pretty quick? As opposed to buying bottled water
Why do you use this?
Wouldn't you need to add minerals back in to the water though? I thought distilling removed the bad and the good stuff.
