SpaceX’s Starship launch is 3 hours away.

The 33 Raptor engines of Super Heavy first stage will generate 265 GW of power.

For reference the entire electrical grid of USA is currently consuming 95GW of power.

During the launch… This one single vehicle will be generating something like 3x the power of the entirety of America.

The biz plan is to fire these things several times per day.

I like this Elon better.

You just have to love the ambition of it, right?

I have no idea how this makes money, there are a lot of things that /could/ make money eg Starlink.

But 🤷‍♂️ it’s a huge gamble to commit to building all this infrastructure, and I really love that courage.

I generally agree with both Musk and Robert Zubrin that a positive future for humanity will require human expansion into space.

we can't stay on Earth forever

Well, we can. But the chances of our premature extinction go way up in that scenario.

agreed.

have some sats while we're both on Earth ⚡

Earth will not be here forever.

If you’re the cheapest way to get big things into space I don’t see how making money would be a problem.

Delivering payload to orbit is in high demand. Also, it’s a fully and rapidly reusable rocket so it will decrease the cost of payload to orbit by several orders of magnitude. They’ve made a lot of decisions to cut costs including using stainless steel instead of an expensive alloy and using methane instead of more expensive rocket fuels. Also they have a production factory on site and will benefit from economies of scale by mass producing large numbers of starships.

intense 👀

But #bitcoin mining…🙄🤣

Enough is enough! Way too much power consumption.

NASA and SpaceX should move to Proof of Stake for their rocket launches!

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Using the power of 3 Americas?! Someone page warren!

#changethecode, ammirit

Very exciting

thats unbelievable 🤯

It only burns for a few minutes, but whilst it’s rising through the atmosphere the power output is absolutely ferocious.

...and Elon complains about the consumption of bitcoin mining...

He also endorses Bitcoin and put it on Tesla’s balance sheet

Wowwee! And they’re worried about Bitcoin mining being bad for the planet!

But sure, why not, we’ll destroy the planet not by providing the most super sound, non corruptible money humanity has ever seen but by instead, sending rich jackasses into space for joyrides.

This is wild. But also feels like the unit of measurement is missing a time component?

Power = energy per unit of time.

So the comparison is Joules per second for both Super Heavy and the USA.

Makes sense, thanks 🤙

SpaceX is as bright as the North Star, I Love this crazy goal

just imagine the outrage if those 265GW were Bitcoin miners.

They are GO for loading propellant.

In the words of a great man…

Squeaky bum time!

Good to know its capacity is way more than just for scientific out space exploration but also can benefit the daily life conveniences for people on earth. 🤙🏻

Great times! So happy to hear and see this!

Wished mainstream media would showcase how often rockets go up and the biggest rocket! Showcase how efficient they are reused because they land!

Much more efficient in private hands. Love how rockets land and are used over and over. Way to go! Spaceflight progress is happening.

Ok, that's where we need most energy

It does not seem to be too green 🤔🤪😄

For about how long do these engines provide power? I'd like to calculate about how much energy is used. Thank you.
