spam filtering should happen on both the client and the server. nostr’s pubsub enables relays to gossip - we should leverage this for spam prevention. this can keep spam from burning bandwidth and storage. client filtering is the the stand and super expensive, comparatively.
the damus relay is preventing some replyguy spam due to its rate limiting, but it seems like its mostly coming through nos.lol and the primal strfry relay.
that's the downside of relay spam protections, if any relays on your relay list let it through you will still see it.
this is why most spam protections will be on the client side. nostr:npub1yaul8k059377u9lsu67de7y637w4jtgeuwcmh5n7788l6xnlnrgs3tvjmf is working on a trust filter for people outside of your web-of-trust on threads as we speak, so hopefully that will fix thread spam on Damus soon.
