the damus relay is preventing some replyguy spam due to its rate limiting, but it seems like its mostly coming through nos.lol and the primal strfry relay.

that's the downside of relay spam protections, if any relays on your relay list let it through you will still see it.

this is why most spam protections will be on the client side. nostr:npub1yaul8k059377u9lsu67de7y637w4jtgeuwcmh5n7788l6xnlnrgs3tvjmf is working on a trust filter for people outside of your web-of-trust on threads as we speak, so hopefully that will fix thread spam on Damus soon.

It's a fighting battle the free relays will never win. I had to remove your relay and I stopped seeing spam.

I'm sticking to paid relays. Even a tiny fee of 21 sats like nostr21.com keeps bots away.

I'm not sure. I'm not an expert in relays. All I know is my relay is working fine, I can message anyone and there's no spam.

You have 11 relays defined, one of them is localhost. When I reply to you or send a DM, you expect "me" to publish that to all your 10 public available relays?

Where should I publish my events for your to see them? Randomly pick perhaps 3 of the 10 relays?

I have no idea. I'm not an expert in relays. I just know the biggest relays are full of spam and once I removed them the spam went away.

Do you know if anybody has tried simply integrating a classic bayesian filter client side? Could come pre-filled with reasonable model weights.

Maybe Amber or another external app to Amethyst/Primal/etc could be used as a local relay which filters all other relays and act as the final spam killer.

It needs to be easy to update filters on the fly there and be able of sharing plugins among other users.

spam filtering should happen on both the client and the server. nostr’s pubsub enables relays to gossip - we should leverage this for spam prevention. this can keep spam from burning bandwidth and storage. client filtering is the the stand and super expensive, comparatively.
