It is a sad state of affairs in which we live in.
It doesn't seem that Trump is particularly interested in the devestating impact a ridiculous trade war would have on the American people. If he starts imposing these ludicrous tariffs, other countries will do the same. Consumer prices will skyrocket, and the availability of foreign goods will plummet. Since we rely on foreign goods for literally everything, the effect on the economy will be enormous, and the American people will endure serious hardship.
Similarly, American merchants who depend on exports to foreign nations will see their revenues slashed drastically. And of course it will be the poor and middle class who suffers the most while the wealthy will continue on relatively unscathed. The extent of the looming crisis cannot be overstated.
