A cool feature for a client would be to include an "inactive" tag on someone's npub or profile if they haven't been active in 30 days or so.

Would help with the cleaning up process 🤙

Maybe "inactive" is too harsh a status/tag. But perhaps a "last note" date-time stamp would suffice.

Yea something like that would be helpful. Once it’s been a couple weeks I start to wonder if they abandoned that npub or lost their keys. No need to follow an account that will never be used again.

Damus doesn’t have a follow all but that’s a cool feature! Yea I try to follow back people who engage back with me on posts. Once I’ve followed a couple hundred more then I go back through them to clean up.

I think some of the worst offenders are the ones that say “I’ll pay sats to anyone who follows and reposts this.” It’s pretty obvious why they’re doing it. I’m happy to take their sats but I’ll unfollow fast af if they unfollow me 😂

Some 🤡 last night was telling me i simp for sats because I engage the ⚡️threads to receive sats. Nostr is about sending and receiving sats. It’s fun and amplifies the ⚡️ network. I checked his account and it was all about how much sats he has and how receiving sats is beneath him.

The real simping is the sending sats for reposts and follows like you said. That to me is the garbage avenue to go.

I also unfollow the constant invoice requests with a heavy ratio of invoice to comments. I’m more than happy to send sats, but at the very least have some brain cells to engage.

The initial wave we had around Christmas was full of failed accounts.

A lot of the accounts I unfollowed was no activity for a month.

I’m a 3 week cut off guy…

Usually I’m 2 weeks. But even if it’s only been 1 week and it’s someone I don’t engage with or see them post often, then I unfollow.

Yeah, it’s all quite variable to be fair. I should add that I balance it all with their content. If their posts are rare but golden then I stick with them.

💯 that’s the most important factor of all. If I like what you’re posting then I’ll follow you and never look back. Doesn’t matter if you follow me back.

What is the follow/unfollow game? Many people are losing follows through no fault of their own, so they should be encouraged to follow them again. Nostrgram has a follow history tool now that makes this easy.

I know all my follows disappeared a couple days in and I had to manually re-add them from cache/history. A lot of people were bouncing between relays. I think we need in-app pushing/refreshing of profiles, relays and follows to a connected relays.

Maybe that could be part of it too. Maybe they’ve switched relays and I lost a contact.

1. Most influencers who post 1-liners

2. Anyone who posts Twitter links

3. Anyone that posts giant messages bc Damus doesn’t have read more 😆 block them too for now sadly; even if content is great! Double sad.

Yea true. I try to weigh those more on the value/quality of their posts or my engagement with them. If someone is interesting or we engage on even a semi-regular basis then that’s someone I want to keep following, even if they don’t follow me back. Some are a little more obvious because they were just buying followers in the first place “I’ll send sats to anyone who follows and reposts” and then they unfollow you 😂

Being outside of the whole game is so liberating. You just do what you do and the rest is not up to you, and couldn’t care less whether someone follow or not 😁

I miss lists so you can curate by topics who to follow since missing good notes is too easy with a huge firehose feed.

I was hoping the follow/unfollow game wouldn't find its way here. When I was prompted to follow all accounts and saw that it was just 1100 or so, I followed everyone because I thought it was cool to connect with all of the early users. I was part of the dot com crowd in NYC in the late nineties and back then we were all just excited to connect. Similar vibe here that I hope sticks.

That’s been mostly the vibe here too. I love it 🙌 Starting to see a few who seem to be in it for the followers but I think by and large it’s still just people here who love Nostr and interacting with each other.
