Very true, but my point being I know some monero proponents that slam any privacy preserving Bitcoin tools, or Bitcoin period, including cashu…which I view as a superior custodial model

I would argue that it is an alternative in the sense that it offers private, anonymous payments too.
The details and tradeoffs differ, yes, but if you're someone concerned with not contributing to the surveillance machine, both would be good choices.
