What’s the worst book you still finished anyways?

Mine was “Homo Deus”, still finished but scammed.

I'm half way through Atlas Shrugged and it could be a contender.

She was right conceptually in many ways, but the books are very poorly written.

Precisely. And the sexy bits - yuk 😂

So bad

She was a literary genius especially considering she wasn't writing in her primary language. It's rare that I would read anything over 1000 pages but this was a good read.

All my life, I've asked, "What really is money?"

Not until Fransico d'Anconia explained, it was a tool for honest people to trade goods and services with, did I find an acceptable answer.

Agree. It's a real slog.

Funnily enough I am yet to read a book I’d consider horrible. Currently enjoying Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology!

Deus Homo.

Oliver Twist from Charles Dickens

The catcher in the rye - too much whining, though I know a lot of people love it

12 rules for life

Not sorry

Too preechy pedantic yes, but speaks to many in a positive way.

Very helpful when I read it for me. But a while after lost the rose colored glasses for Peterson.

Would definitely recommended the book to anyone who might feel "lost". But just caution people that he isn't right about everything.

That goes for pretty much every public personality. They get some stuff right, but a lot they are just as clueless as the rest of us.

Abandon hero worship folks, open yourself to the experience of arriving to your own conclusions.

OMG honestly yes. I thought it was only got bored in the middle because of blah blahh blahh but now I see my feeling was correct 🥹🥹🫠🫠

I’m halfway through Sapiens right now… so many assertions that I already feel scammed but powering through because a friend loved it and I want to have a conversation about it.

There is clearly a correct answer to this question…

Sapiens. Everyone around me talked about that book and I got so disappointed in the end. Especially the money part in that book. Like, if he writes about money in that way, what else is he uneducated in? I cannot remember what exactly he got wrong, but something was off for sure.

I’m in that section of the book now. He clearly needs to read the Bitcoin Standard.

I had the same thought when reading that book, although I rather enjoyed the rest. But during the Money chapter, I was thinking, "nah, I like Szabo's theory way better".

“Scammed” or “Scanned” - or both?

Sapiens good, deus bad

Catcher in the Rye - didn’t take anything from it, or Never Let Me Go - way too slow

The last Eragon book. I had to know how the story ends. Until I read that book, then I wanted to forget how it ended. Actually that reminds me of the last Harry Potter book. Such a great series of books, until that last book, which basically took everything that happened until that point and then shot it in the face point blank. Artemis Fowl as well. Hmm… I am beginning to see a pattern here.

All final books in a series are terrible and should be avoided at all costs! Might just be Young Adult novels, can’t actually think of any other where I really hated the last book. Or maybe I’m just not as deeply invested anymore compared to when I was younger so I just shrug it off now and put the book away to read/do something else.

"Что делать?" by Chernyshevsky. Even to a 15-year-old me it was a marvel of pathetic dimwittery.

very recently read noise by kahneman - very poor stuff imo
