I want this to happen
Discussion
Let’s make it happen! There’s so much talent here. Could #nostr built it?

good spirit!
I think for that to happen the phone itself must become irrelevant. Perhaps web assembly applications becoming better and more performant than local app.s This would make wathever OS or hardware running inconsequential.
do you want to mess with that sort of dev though? it's a fantastic idea - but consider if you give a fuck about building another engineering tool? i thought you never planned to do any of this (gestures to everything) anyway. life is short...
we must support the young teams :) who has a team and is hungry?
no one is stopping anyone from developing anything. "we" implying what - you are personally interested in financially funding the dev? i am not but please do should you find someone you wish to tether yourself to going forward forever in a stakeholder system. sounds like a nightmare to me. i think the point is: if jack is interested in the process himself, i was supportive with providing an idea, but he should want to develop it, genuinely. otherwise - he should stop focusing his attention on what he doesn't enjoy and falling prey to forever stake and endless "support" schemes which entrap his time and finances. etc etc. :).
Problem is... if you went far enough with hardware and software it would be far too threatening for the networks to allow such devices and so they would not. So then you'd also have to somehow launch and maintain an alternative global mobile wireless network.
Gotta say that I am extremely happy with a Pixel device (6a) running Graphene OS. I was expecting to have to make a lot of awkward compromises but I have not had to do that. My use-cases are probably atypical but I've been able to set up this phone to do anything and everything that I want and need to do with it and altogether it honestly works better - a lot better in every way that matters to me - than my prior Samsung-on-Android phone that it replaced.
I run the ooen source Linux PinePhone on T-Mobile no problem at all.
How can we help?
🐝📲 bPhone 🤳📳

it already has. pmOS, pinephone, librem 5, etc. people just need to develop for these.
Hardware seems mostly for R&D – it is improving. A #wifionly option could do well.
That is correct. Soon we have global internet thx to elon. Starlink works quite well…but need to keep going w more options, but wifi is right on point and offline-tech that is based in ☀️ thinking
we are far from open source chips :)
Secure element TROPIC01 could be available in 2025.
“All Rights Reserved” :)
Did they tape out?
I don't think so.
A git repo with details will likely be available later; other hardware has been: https://github.com/trezor/trezor-hardware
Once they get to the fab, it’s a whole new set of issues :) For instance, there are standard libraries that keep the fab in control, similar to standard c library in software…that is closed as closed can be and includes other IP…they literally call it IP :)
Software is soft. Hardware is HARD.
Not familiar with those details. They did have a chip available at #BTCPrague
cool. I think they taped out.
nostr:npub1ethjfqkqfwu6hsavdlxayu68uzf2v0wrwfqhzptpsft8gcxt2npsxwt6n9 did you make it there?
Well. Back in 2007 we did this at openmoko
Ask me about freerunner
Look into funding a project like https://SailfishOS.org, they're doing cool stuff
