I've worked in sw in USA and DE, with international teams, and I haven't noticed US devs being twice as productive as Spanish ones.

Dev fluffers

Aside from Stella, you never can tell these days... πŸ™„

We also had Chinese, French, Moroccan, Japanese, Tanzanian, and Indian devs... they were all really good. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Even -- believe it or not -- the Canadians and Irish were passable.

That doesn't mean that their average dev is necessarily as good, and you might want someone in a particular geographic area for other reasons, but it does mean that you can recruit worldwide, pay in sats, and get someone good.

ah just seeing this, i assume it was a discussion on nostr or smth lol

wat makes you state this to begin with

what's tge relevance lol

Just found out that some American senior software devs are pulling upwards of $150k/year and I'm like 🀯

Out here in the Bavarian Backwoods, that's like Warlord Money. πŸ˜‚

the world is not finished automating things

Germans get more vacation and lots of other stuff

free healthcare etc

Yeah, probably reflects a lower cost of living. Only need €60k, to be in the top 5% of single income earners, here.

But it helps explain to me why the "he better be earning six figures" meme is so prevalent.

in my experience with USA and SEA devs, two developers can have the same level of technical experience, but when developing software for a western market, the cultural gaps put the SEA devs at a disadvantage and meant the project manager had to do much more work to bridge the gap.

That's true.

On the other hand, it's nearly impossible to tell which npubs are coming from where, so long as they all write in English, so the Sat Economy Devs are probably easier to integrate because they're a self-selected group.

I was working for big engineering corporations, like Toyota or Airbus, and they have such a strong internal culture, that they can move people around internationally.

So, you need a subculture, I guess. Which Nostr has.

lol

no probably not

Pablo versus Will, the final showdown. 🀭

I understand the Nigerians have got some pretty good developers and also Ivory Coast
