Yeah... You jumped on it pretty early. I resisted for 6 more months after you. It was very limited back then but the community was so tight. Did you take part in the Twestivals and Tweetups we'd have (I was going to those in Vancouver)?

What's nuts is that as "early" as I was (15M users already) we're far earlier on Nostr and Nostr only exists standing on the backs of giants.

My weekend was slightly diff - the people in my country were able to overthrow a draconian internet suppression law within 2 days by voicing it out on twitter. Want people to leave twitter ? don’t badger people out of it - build something that is of value for the people to attract them.

Nostr had the opportunity to test out public town square last week but instead of using that precious chance to improve nostr (bridging like-mindedness, privacy etc), I only kept hearing complaints abt other platforms, justifications for shortcomings and even pissing on users for sharing their thoughts.

You can fund people, but you can't buy mindset - that has to be developed from within. People don’t have obligations to be here - some of us have to figure out money to survive this week, next week while keeping oppressive gov’ts in check, and build at the same time.

If you want people here, don’t expect them to owe you gratitude, don’t expect them to stop their means of preventing oppressiveness now just because you hope to build something in the future that you may or may not be committed to all the way. If you want to genuinely help people, get to know who you are building for and what they need - instead of stroking some self-saviour-like ego.

You did not need to succumb to twitter quitting pressure, but it's good that it gave you an opportunity to figure out what you want.

Also if you can’t stop yourself from opening twitter for the weekend and it had to be so dramatic that you had to deactivate your account, you are quite addicted lol! But you can use it as an opportunity to practice self-restraint. At the end of the day, what matters is how you make the most out of any situation.

I deleted my account recently, this time for good. X, although valuable in many ways, was getting me depressed.

If someone slapped together an app that only showed me tweets of reliable (non-MSM) news, I'd have no use for X anymore at all.

Twitter is pivotal for scientists. When I was in grad school, it was part of the official research pipeline. I think it is dangerous for a Bitcoin professional to simply not have access to it. I am using a vpn to at least stay connected, although my account is noticeably shadowbanned. What I want from a social network is clear, explicit control over my hyperparameters, down to the core. What I want from Nostr is a client that will create a research and development timeline focused only on optech-style conversations, where I can absolutely filter misogyny/bigotry/trolling against women and keep the high-signal technical topics. I also hope to have at least the minimal power to design my own algorithms transparently, without shady mechanisms of algorithmic manipulation on the client side that promise functionality but don’t deliver.

The psychologists here was doxxing medical profiles all tied to government kinship. There is no excuse for this. This is why supply chain suffers. People in medicine should not be so lax about privacy and security

I deleted Twitter today. I haven’t deactivated yet but I did cancel my blue check. Even with only following mostly Bitcoin accounts, the sewer hose was too much. Nostr is an objectively healthier space with a dizzying pace of development.

Twitter was my absolute favorite. I was employed off an @reply that led to a face to face meeting in DC. It became such a mess during the sale though, hasn’t felt the same since.

government officials from places that have banned VPN & porn because of the threat of radicalization & addiction can use a VPN to access X & observe all the degeneracy & debauchery the west has to offer, reconfirming their commitment to protect their own people from our ways lol. Every society has its own issues no doubt, and there are people that envy the west in terms of our quality of living but not our connection to each other communites, our addicts, our homeless, are all symptomatic of where western individualsusm finds itself. I really hope for a better standard of living for the BRICS+ countries & for the West a return to tradition before vice destroys us even more. The decay is everywhere I look.
