Is anyone else micro-managed by a green bubble at their 9-5?

I'm curious how widespread this battle of perception goes.

Since I've never heard the term I'm guessing the answer is no.

We work in a hybrid situation. If I'm in the office doing nothing, not a word.

If I'm at the house and my teams bubble goes to "away" for too long, I start getting hit with productivity questions. Suddenly leadership becomes super interested in my projects.

Stupid thing is, because Teams is in the web browser, unless I'm active in the browser, it's always "away".

Oh I see.

I think my employer judges mainly on results, so I'm okay using what I like at home as long as it works, and most of the time that means using #Ubuntu or #Chromeos so my teams status isn't really available until I'm actually called or calling someone.

So, similar spot, I use Ubuntu. The irony here is that because teams is in the browser, it inactive most often while I'm actually working.

I wrote a script to keep the screen active when I'm not at my desk. 🤷‍♂️

So dumb.

What you really need is a better boss :)

Working on it.

Mouse jiggler applications automatically move your mouse cursor periodically to prevent your computer from falling asleep or locking due to inactivity. They help you stay active and ensure that your status is not set to inactive or away. Or ask around, I am sure there is a nice open source script for your browser to keep it green.

(Also consider finding a new gig where productivity means results, not "managers" watching for away bubles).

Oh, all good. I wrote my own. Just curious if other people have to do this type of stupidity to keep leadership out of their hair.
