Get a node host urself
Not possible ATM. I tried to hook up my Zeus wallet using Alby node and couldn’t keep up (6 months or so ago). We are not ready for that level while we are still keeping bees and doing farmers markets, but one day…
Totally understand that. I’m learning all this myself still. Happy to help in anyway that I can if I discover an easier pathway
You are very kind. This Alby move seems excessive, but we just had to raise our honey prices, so I get it. I have four lightning wallets, so it is time to trim some fat anyway. I will just have to ditch Alby I guess.
Can host through a service as well. Voltage.cloud offers hosting as a service
Unsure of the cost associated, it's nice not having to worry about your own hardware.
If you don't self host, that seems to be the case.
Well crap.
Hey Alby, ever plan to notify your users about this? You have email adressess.
The free Alby wallet is being shutdown.
You can either move to the cloud-hosted package, which is 10.5k for the first 3mo, and 21k per month after the intro period. Or you could run a self-hosted wallet either on your own hardware (Start9), or on a hosted VPS, in which case you'd have the expense of running your own node, but free Alby services. Or you could say goodbye to Alby and use another wallet like Zeus, Breez, Blitz, Minibits, or Cashu. Some of them provide NWC for a seamless nostr integration, and others work as a completely external solution.
I made the decision to stop using Alby because I don't transact enough volume to justify the expense. I tried virtually every other wallet, and finally settled on Minibits Wallet because it's self-custodial, stable, easy to use, offers NWC, offers a custom LN address, and supports both Lightning and eCash. It's also being actively developed so it receives regular updates and fixes.
The Minibits devs are also active on Nostr, and are happy to engage with users to resolve issues, and incorporate user suggestions into the app. Minibits Wallet is my personal recommendation if you're coming off Alby due to the expense. #Alby #Bitcoin
You can also consider a web-based solution like Coinos.io. That has all the features of Minibits, but it's a web-based wallet instead of being an app that run on your device. That means it supports both Android and iOS, and doesn't require any maintenance. Additionally, Coinos has built in merchant services so it can be used to accept bitcoin for sales.
You don't need to run your own node to self host Alby hub, any old laptop will do, it just needs to be online in order to send or receive transactions.

what happened? are you using the extension or something ? Are they stopping the extension? I can't see any news about this anywhere..
I spent 200 fiat bucks on a new 2tb ssd 16gb memory and a second hand i5 thinkbook sff
Been running now for a couple of months.
Besides an account sync mishap. Simple logout login and it was fixed. No problems further then that.
Been running smooth ever since!
