I’m liking RFK..
I like RFK, too.
I’ve heard him speak a couple of times and I like what he has to say.
But me “liking” RFK does not preclude me from being critical of him.
On the contrary, the fact that my gut reaction is to like him tells me I need to be even more critical, to ensure I’m not letting my biases cloud my judgement.
Right now RFK is the candidate I like the most (but the bar is also extremely low 🫠).
I’d certainly take RFK over Biden or Trump every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
But if I immediately dropped my political panties for a politician just because he says things I agree with, I’d be no better than the partisan parrots waving red and blue flags.
There is no red.
There is no blue.
There is the State.
And there is you.
RFK endeavors to lead the State and thus, I will be critical of what he says and what he does. Again, this does not mean I am “against” him.
My vote is not easily won, and I will remain doubtful of any and all politicians.
To doubt is to think.
That said, I am hopeful; I think RFK has the potential to be a great leader.
If nothing else, I believe he helps shift the Overton window.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
All true
To doubt is to think. - Some real truth in that. Think for yourself and question authority. Thanks for the talk!
“Dubito ergo cogito, cogito ergo sum” has been etched into my brain by my father-in-law who defected from communist Romania.
Just finished the podcast and then seeing this post, "Dubito ergo cogito" rings heavy now. Cogito ergo sum has always been around me with Descartes (?) but Dubito ergo cogito is amazing. 🤙
Would you still feel the same if he dropped an ordinal collection?
Would I still be doubtful and critical?
Yes.
I'm impressed by RFKjr to speak the middle ground on many topics, one that to his party looks radical. He has a very astute way to convey his thoughts, but if you look deeply into what he says it leaves much to be desired. This may be caused not by his disagreeing with us, but he acts as a mirror to our own views.
Many bitcoiners feel like we want bitcoin to be traded without capital gains taxes. But if we got what we wanted, and that's exactly what RFKjr is proposing, we immediately see the next obstacle: Income tax. Regardless if capital gains tax were removed from bitcoin transactions, we still need to account for the difference between what dollar amount bitcoin was acquired for and what dollar amount bitcoin was sold/traded for. This is still income, and still requires us to maintain onerous transaction logs so it is taxed according to the law. If bitcoin trade profits and losses were exempted from income tax altogether, this essentially violates the legal tender law and several tax laws.
RFKjr needs to do a much better job of explaining what he means by exempting from capital gains and explain what that looks like in a practical sense. Does that mean that one can pour one's savings into bitcoin and when the dollar price goes up, you are fully tax exempt from this gain? Can you imagine your screaming uncle about people not paying their fair share?
You have a point about RFKjr, at a minimum he is opening the Overton window for all sides.
This is the correct stance. Our Famers did not want politicians to be worshiped. We should not agree with 100% everything they say. Sometimes you vote Republican. Sometimes you vote Democrat. You vote whom you feel will do the best for the job at hand.
With the majority of the voter block being independent you would never know that watching the news.
The division illusion captures the audience to think it’s us vs them.
I like RFK too.
He says good stuff - sensible, common sense, he thinks, has empathy & compassion, has a sense of right & wrong & integrity.
He is also a politician.
He also has a very American world view, while Trump has a world view with America in it.
As a world citizen living in Australia, I reckon both would be good for America, but Trump more so for the world in the short term.
