Trump serious about Greenland. “For security”
Discussion
Drill baby drill.
Yep, was serious in 2016 about it too
it is resource rich, will be very valuable after the global economic shakeout
And Canada. 🍿
He wants to rename it, Trumpland. I wish I was kidding. Denmark has said they have no interest in selling it to the United States, and the strong majority of Greenland residents are opposed to it, as well. Yet Trump's already renaming it and measuring the curtains.
US has a lot of leverage.
Of course. But seizing sovereign territory would cause massive, global outrage from both our enemies and our allies. It's essentially what Putin is doing to Ukraine. The consequences of such a move would be incalculable. And despite the legitimate reasons why Greenland would be advantageous to the United States, that's not why Trump is obsessed with it.
His motivations go back to his first presidency when he was shown a Mercator projection map and saw how big Greenland looked. He loves maps and real estate. And he saw Greenland as the ultimate real estate deal. And when Denmark shot him down, refusing to cede control of their arctic territory, and other leaders started laughing at him about it, he did what he always does; he doubled down.
What we're seeing now is his obsessed desire to own Greenland. And it's all about his ego, and what he sees as his personal gain from such a move.
Your modern version of the viking saga :) I find it sad as Greenland has one of the oldest recorded histories in the world and culturally so unique yet it remains poor largely due to historical colonization. To see it exchange hands between the powerful without the consideration of real independence is your modern version of colonization. Why go to war when you can just make a country really poor, and trade those countries instead.
