If you’re flying, say no to the facial recognition scans when they check your ticket prior to passing through the TSA checkpoint.

They won’t tell you that you have the option, but you do. Make sure not to stand in front of the camera.

What rights are you using in such case? Would be good with a reference at least.

It's part of the TSA code. For now.

We have no right to privacy inside an airport since it's private property, and no right to fly since it's a privilege. Hence the increasing leveraging of "well you want to get where you're going, right?" to get travelers to comply to increasingly violating security theater.

Alright. I thought it was some form of no unwarranted searches or something, from the constitution. But I guess the extortion element in "then you're not flying" side steps that; making it quasi voluntary.

Exactly

For what it’s worth, I went through the airport in San Diego recently. It does have a sign mentioning that facial recognition was present and the photo would be deleted immediately after verification but you could opt out. It’s up to you to believe if that’s true or not. I’ve already accepted the fact that there’s cameras everywhere in airports and the government has my biometric information anyway so it’s futile, but there’s nothing wrong with opting out of biometric checks if you have the option.

Last time I flew I also saw a sign. I was the only one in my family who declined. It takes a few extra seconds but really not a big deal.

Agreed. But, it is a public, symbolic action that may inspire others to at least think about it.

Happy to hear that. I have been in a few places where I didn’t see a sign, but even if a sign is present it’s not a guarantee that people see it.

Regardless, they don’t ask you whether or not you want it; it’s the default expectation. Bringing it up would actually draw attention to it, and they obviously just want as much biometric data as possible.

Hope you’re well, Terry. Would love for our paths to cross again soon.

Agreed.

I’ll be in Vegas at the Nostr Lounge, so drop by to say hi!

I’ll be there.

Have you noticed that the TSA agent will turn the camera away from you when you decline?

I stand purposefully outside the frame of the camera.

Fly private if you can

Unfortunately not an option in places like Hong Kong and Singapore.

Yeah, this was a US focused post.

I refuse the body scanners too & make them pat me down. I make sure to moan subtly but noticeably while they do this. 💁‍♂️😏😂

Feels good to have some intimate human contact. 🤙

Oh my.
