Interaction at a recent bitcoin conf: “i always wanted to get into nostr but i don’t know how”.

I got them to download damus and showed it takes 1 click to get into the app.

They were like “wait thats it”? “I don’t even need to put in my email?

people are so used to legacy systems they don’t realize how easy things can be.

Easy to overlook the friction we face online every day until that friction is taken away.

Like how you only notice the HVAC when it switches off and suddenly it’s silent.

Remarkable.

I'm convinced that tons of normies would use it if they knew how easy and uncensorable it was.

Getting them to use proper key management would be a struggle.

And frankly, the npubs are ugly.

that was the hardest part. Trying to figure out how to get a login that doesn't need an email but I kept coming back every month until someone made tools easier for me to get one. Just like Bitcoin, difficult to use at the beginning but everyone makes tools to make it easier to use.

This is a frequent experience for me. They think they either have to have an advanced degree in computer science or live entirely off the grid to use it or something.

No excuse really

Sounds like the right approach. People can learn the stuff about the details later. If you start to talk about them too early, people will see you like this:

новый метод позволяет войти с помощью 24 слова. и одно слово пароль.

полностью защищенный даже на квантовом уровне меседжер.

теперь любая информация будет доставленна точно и в срок.

Strangely I also was a bit perplexed how easy it was to get set up. I heard Nostr get dropped a few times on various podcasts. I don't think the podcasters explain it properly. They don't mention you need "insert app" on your phone to access Nostr. That's my experience anyway.

Wild. I still think that people are permanently scarred from the jackening when it was super hard to get started especially if you missed damus TestFlight
