Right, it's just that some gangs make themselves look more "legit" than others.

Haiti was the second country in the world to assume it's independence from colonial powers, trade embargos and such from long ago hindered this countries progress, meanwhile the other half of the island is a party hub. There was an intentional effort for things to turn out like this.

I feel like I've seen this movie before.

Hopefully the new governments can sit down and come to an arrangement that includes some recognition of citizen's personal and property rights.

Haitian's ancestors in West Africa assuredly had the cultural infrastructure to form such connections.

Haiti has had so much emigration, that the brain-drain is completely crippling the country's attempts to reform.

The oligarchy will never forgive the Haitians their revolt from 1791. They will never be left alone because of this insult. There will always be interference from all kinds of colonial powers telling the Haitians that they didn't forget.
