Here’s a crazy idea: What if art doesn’t need a blockchain? What if people just made art to make art?

And if people liked the art, they would pay you so you make more or to be the owner of a one of a kind physical piece.
Agree but also disagree.
Ownership and intellectual/creator rights etc are important IMO.
Do we need Blockchain for it? Maybe not. Probablly not.
But a decentralized version of an indexing system of the 'likeness' of anything hosted by a voluntary network of nodes is likely the future.
Everyone hosts their own content on their node and can post the Metadata of it in a time ordering sequence, delineating creation date.
Maybe we don't need a blockchain... but the ideas and theory will help.
Nostr likely wouldn't exist without Bitcoin, right?
But it does offer some advantages like royalties from secondary & tertiary sale to the artist which was previously not possible.
Why is that necessary for an artist to be successful?
Because it allows the creator to get the benefit when the value of their art goes up and incentivizes them to create more.
I know people here are not big NFT fans but back on my TL, I used to see people publish their mints on fxhash or such marketplaces and actually make a living from it. I'm not sure about the exact price mechanics (there's something called a floor price, # of mints, etc.)
I'm not dismissing zaps as an incentive but blockchains are an alternate means.
I'm sure someone in the digital art trade can articulate this better but as an outsider looking in this is what the NFT piece looked like to me
Most won’t make it if they depend on their money from their art to survive
Sounds like it might make more sense for artists to save in bitcoin.
I will reserve 21 copies of my new book to be sold exclusively in Bitcoin 💪🏼
Not every artist will live of their art. Even on Bitcoin standard they won’t. Pareto distribution is a brutal thing.
Hence the name “starving artist.” It’s true, sometimes real talent is only recognized posthumously. Blockchain doesn’t fix this.
Unfortunately. But #nostr plus #Bitcoin can help more to reach bigger audience and then again more competition will happen and the best artists will live from their art.
The goal of art is to create something captivating and beautiful. It will never speak to everyone, especially early on without countless marketing dollars… but good art stands the test of time and becomes noticed + more desirable as the value appreciates.
This is why I have no problem spending sats to buy real art. I know that the value will go up on both the art and the sats over time.
But but but… what about proof of ownership and timelessness? Are you saying art inherently has those characteristics?
Wait, what’s crazy about that? Lol,, I’m not sure how I would use blockchain in the art I make? A 2d photo often looses the pieces feeling too because they aren’t usualy flat in person .. I’m not even sure where I’m going to put the piece I’m working on now when I finish it .. or how I’ll move it .. lol.. I’m
Not even sure why I’m making it , but I somehow have all the media in its solid state crying to me to make it a part of the piece.. wait ,, I sound cray don’t I? Oh well ,, have a blessed day! GM and PV! ✌🏽
But people like the blockchain, sir.
Why is it bad for someone to store the image forever on the timechain with immutable history if they pay the fees to do so?
You could literally fetch the image in perpetuity so long as you know the txid
