Getting into jazz is the ultimate end-point of listening to prog. There's no better way to alienate your friends and family than becoming a jazz-head but that's fine because, like meth, it's a path to finding better friends anyway.

Whats a good jazz onboarding EP?
Just one? Since you're a fan of The Dan and presumably like things smooth, maybe try Kind Of Blue. It's probably famous jazz album ever recorded but for good reason.
The best way to get into jazz though is just to immerse yourself in it for a while. If you're coming at it after a lifetime of listening to rock music the different grammar takes some getting used to.
Love the Dan , checking this out now.
Lol, but there are jazz hoes at least?
Right??
Hoes? You mean, like, women? And jazz? In the same place?
Is there no heroin chic jazz hoe scene??? 😭😭😭
There is no "scene". Once you get into jazz you can kiss your social life goodbye. Once upon a time maybe you'd venture out to a record store to have an argument with some 80 year-old men about some deep lore but what with the internet now you can just use Soulseek and stay home eating catfood on toast while listening to Bud Powell.
I'm not sure I'll notice the difference in my life, so I may as well give it a go ay
I just need to check of jazz is a gateway to swing and dressing up like those 50s vintage shop larping people and swing dance and what not. Not sure I can handle that.
Nah, those people are far more well-adjusted than the true jazz-head. You won't be having any fun. In fact, after a while you won't even enjoy jazz anymore - you'll just get a vague sense of superiority from collecting records no one else wants.
And then we'll move on to classical...
Yeah I was thinking about the gateways, there's a few that lead to jazz. Dub, reggae, jungle, prog, noise, musique concrete etc etc all lead to jazz p easily and jazz leads to classical. What happens after classical??? Is it the final boss. or does rhebcyxle start again?? I'm scared.
Ok you're not gonna like this.
In fact you might block me.
But...
I don't have a record player.
I just do digital downloads or YouTube.
Ok, it's gonna get worse. Please brace yourself.
I don't even have speakers.
And often I'm too headphone-fatigued and listen just off my laptop speakers.
Hello? Are you still there?
You don't PLAY records, you silly goose - you just put them on a shelf and hope that the vague satisfaction that comes from ownership offsets the anxiety you feel when you think of all the records you don't have.
