So freaking GREAT! Only thing is that there still seems to be an issue with the copyright and licensing traditional system. Uploaded EXLESS (100% mine, but has co-writer credits) and was flagged for infringement of my own song. Uploaded Cherry On Top (also 100% mine, but no co-writers) and it accepted it. There is definitely carry over work to be done with publishing and licensing issues but this is a HUGE step in the right direction. I'm not sure I understand your question? I imagine that data sets will be a natural follow up to this release/upgrade. Personally, the true test of this is if artists see payments. I could care less how many people listen to my music for free if just one person send's $10 that's more than most independent musicians make on spotify in a year. Most of the distributors give you very little data anyway so I'm done with the vanity metrics. Money is the barometer. Artists only need 1,000 fans to support them at $10 a month to change the game entirely. If fans moved their spending of $19.99 a month on Spotify (for millions of free tracks they never listen to) then we could change how music is discovered around the world. Buh-Bye middlemen! Hello revenue!

I just meant do Tidal send you trustworthy figures on plays? A way of verifying/proving you had x amount of listens would be great. As I understand it, we only have a platform’s word on listener plays and no way of verifying. Verifiable plays and direct payments is the holy grail as far as I’m concerned!

I removed my own/band’s music from streaming platforms 2 years ago. I’m very much with you on this issue…

Cash app is a legacy system that has a huge user base in the musician community. Most every artist I know has nostr:nprofile1qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uq32amnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwv3sk6atn9e5k7tcqyrrkzl5yxd7xz8rat72pkdd3a3gl9tnwnaq64jtpvzfd2y8pc227qxxwq2n or Venmo. So regardless of the legacy KYC this change enabling direct (distributorless upload) and the direct payment in app allowing fans or listeners to send an artist money is a huge step forward.

Almost every musician I know already uses nostr:nprofile1qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uq32amnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwv3sk6atn9e5k7tcqyrrkzl5yxd7xz8rat72pkdd3a3gl9tnwnaq64jtpvzfd2y8pc227qxxwq2n or Venmo. Cash app has the combined infrastructure of Tidal, Block, Cash App and nostr:nprofile1qyxhwumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmvqyehwumn8ghj7mnhvvh8qunfd4skctnwv46z7ctewe4xcetfd3khsvrpdsmk5vnsw96rydr3v4jrz73hvyu8xqpqsg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q8dzj6n so I have a lot of hope that these legacy tools might one day transform into tools that serve artists directly. The direct upload without a distributor is a big deal. Artist in the US have to pay to distribute their music that then don't ever get any return. It's not perfect yet, but it is a really good step forward for a legacy system.
