Start with HTML, build the basic skeleton of the site, then add CSS for styling, colors etc. Then when you feel comfortable move to JavaScript for the wizardry you want to do on the page.

Hi, Tyson! Nowdays you don't need to learn any coding to build a simple, good looking site. Buy domain and hosting (I recmemd Hostinger. The seem to be the cheapest, and I've been with them for years and haven't had any issues). They will usually install Wordpress for you.
WordPress is the most common software that modern sites are built on. Once it's installed you just set it up and start posting kind of like you do on here.
They also have ready-made "themes" to make your site look cool. Lots of free ones, too.
If you want to give your site more functionality, there are plugins you can install on there and use (also lots of free ones).
Domains and hosting are usually very cheap, but if you can't afford cheap, go to wordpress.com and see if they still have free hosting options.
Here's the link to the free version (it's kind of hidden on their site):
do you want to learn how to build one from scratch? : learn html, css and JavaScript
Do you want to build one using a website builder/content management system? learn wordpress or similar: https://openalternative.co/alternatives/wordpress
Vedos or wedos has been good to me. It is a hosting company with much cheaper prices than others and good service at the same time. For general stuff you can install WordPress. E commerce depends on your level of the technical knowledge

Okay, let's get you started building a website! Since you're not a coder, we'll lean heavily on AI tools and user-friendly platforms. Here's a breakdown:
1. **Choose a Website Builder Platform:**
* **Options:** There are many drag-and-drop website builders like Squarespace, Wix, and Weebly. These are excellent for beginners as they require no coding. WordPress.com (***not*** WordPress.org, which requires more technical setup) is another option.
* **Recommendation:** Start with Wix or Squarespace. They're incredibly intuitive, have beautiful templates, and offer all-in-one solutions (hosting, domain, etc.).
* **AI Assistance:** Many website builders now offer AI features to help you generate content or design layouts. Experiment with these!
2. **Select a Template:**
* **Browse:** Once you've chosen a platform, browse their template library. Look for a design that closely matches the type of website you want to create (e.g., a portfolio, a blog, an online store).
* **Customize:** Don't worry about finding the *perfect* template. The goal is to find one that's close and then customize it to your liking.
* **AI Assistance:** Some builders can suggest templates based on your website's purpose.
3. **Get a Domain Name:**
* **Brainstorm:** Choose a domain name (your website's address) that's relevant to your site's topic and easy to remember.
* **Check Availability:** Use the website builder's domain checker to see if your desired name is available. If not, try variations or different extensions (e.g., .com, .net, .org).
* **AI Assistance:** AI can help you brainstorm domain names based on keywords related to your website.
4. **Create Content:**
* **Plan:** Before you start writing, outline the key pages you'll need (e.g., Home, About, Services, Contact).
* **Write:** Use clear, concise language. Focus on providing value to your visitors.
* **AI Assistance:** This is where AI can be *very* helpful. Use tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to generate initial drafts for your website content. Provide it with specific prompts, like "Write a friendly and engaging 'About Us' section for a website that sells handmade jewelry."
5. **Add Images and Media:**
* **High-Quality:** Use high-resolution images and videos to make your website visually appealing.
* **Copyright:** Be mindful of copyright. Use your own photos or purchase stock images from reputable sources (e.g., Unsplash, Pexels).
* **AI Assistance:** You can even use AI image generators to create custom graphics for your site. For instance, you could try prompting me with: "Generate an image of a person happily wearing a piece of handmade jewelry."
6. **Design and Layout:**
* **Drag-and-Drop:** Use the website builder's drag-and-drop interface to arrange elements on your pages.
* **Consistency:** Maintain a consistent design throughout your website (fonts, colors, spacing).
* **AI Assistance:** Some platforms offer AI-powered design assistance to optimize your layout and visual appeal.
7. **Mobile-Friendly:**
* **Responsiveness:** Ensure your website looks good on all devices (desktops, tablets, smartphones). Most website builders offer responsive templates.
* **Test:** Test your website on different devices to verify its responsiveness.
8. **SEO Basics:**
* **Keywords:** Include relevant keywords in your website's content and meta descriptions (the short descriptions that appear in search engine results).
* **AI Assistance:** AI can help you identify relevant keywords and optimize your content for search engines.
9. **Publish and Promote:**
* **Publish:** Once you're happy with your website, publish it!
* **Promote:** Share your website on social media and other relevant platforms.
**Important Tips:**
* **Start Simple:** Don't try to build everything at once. Focus on creating a basic website with essential content first. You can always add more features and content later.
* **Take Advantage of Tutorials:** Website builders usually offer comprehensive tutorials and support resources.
* **Don't Be Afraid to Experiment:** Play around with the different features and options. You can always undo changes.
* **Ask for Help:** Don't hesitate to ask for help from the website builder's support team or online communities.
By using AI assistance and easy-to-use website builders, you can create a professional-looking website without needing to know how to code. Good luck!
Is it for selling your pottery?
Do you want customers to be able to pay in both bitcoin and USD?
Do you literally want to build it yourself?
yes, yes, maybe (i would like to try but i might be out of my depth)
not really something i have concrete plans for, just something Iβd like to do at some point and wanted to look into
So Iβm in the same boat and Iβm talking with some friends who are web developers to do it. It sounds like they can do what I want, just need to talk about how much it will cost and other specifics.
BUT
Recently saw that Square is going to start accepting bitcoin payments. When, I would love to know! Square websites are great, someone at my studio has one for his pottery and itβs just what I want except no bitcoin option. If they would only allow both payment options I would absolutely just get a Square site.
If you would also like to talk to my web developer friends, mention me and that you want kinda the same thing Iβm asking for:
Weβve been talking about an e-commerce site built in Wordpress using Live Canvas that will use WooCommerce. This will allow me to tweak the site with my HTML skills after they build it, and will allow both Bitcoin and USD payments.
