Well, what do we have here? Is this a new home for my text notes? 🤗

Since we are making #introductions - I’m Jessica Chasteen, or Garden Variety Jess. I’m a gardener, writer, teacher, designer, and overall social media nerd.

I stumbled onto #nostr over on TikTok during discussion of our collective need for a decentralized social media platform that allows us to maintain digital ownership of our accounts and not be subject to the whims of the algorithms.

What’s funny is I thought: you know who might could help us is nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m without even knowing this existed yet! 😎

So for some reason I haven’t been able to follow anyone? I press the button and it seems to change state (to say “unfollow”) but then when I go back to my profile it still says following zero.. hmm. I just got my NIP-05 so maybe that will help… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

😊 what’s even more funny is I used to work in tech support for an app myself 😅 surely I can figure this out. I’m going to try logging onto a desktop client tomorrow and see if that magically helps me.

Should I get the Alby extension and see if it helps at all? 😅 I’m not sure why it would but then again, you never can tell with software.

A little advice to be on Nostr is to use primal.net first and follow the famous people. Then, you use your web of trust (WoT) with coracle app and try to follow the people that cause you curiosity

Don't be afraid to contribute when you feel you have important information. Sometimes it can be difficult in certain technical discussions but don't give up. Be kind and generous with your community

Trying to grow in Nostr is not straightfoward and requires dedication and interest. Finally, you can say what you want here

ngl surprised to see people coming from tiktok. At least not this early. Glad you had patience with us things are much easier now than they were before. Make sure to start following some people who can give you tips on account security if your new to keypairs. Ask questions if you need to.

I am an early-ish adopter 😊 I think the average TikTok user may not quite understand how important this tech is - but people have been calling out for tech wizards to lead us out of the centralized platforms. In the next 12 months this way of passing notes online will grow exponentially. Thanks for the welcome!
