We’re so tied to our phones, we can’t even go to the grocery store without grabbing the damn thing. How crazy is that. “What if there’s an emergency and I need to make a call?!” When was the last time you called anyone?! 🤣 I almost never do.

And then when you try to get away from your phone you get in trouble. "Why didn't you reply to me within one nanosecond!" lol
That's the point of a phone. It's to carry them everywhere. What's the problem. Don't carry yours if you don't want to.
What if
Marketing, the science of exchanges, the name phone is just an idea. Hand computer
Dude. All due respect. My grocery list is kept in my phone reminders. Dr. appts too. Daily planner, etc. I avoid calls, callers, people, conversations. They put ants on me. They usually signify bad juju. If you’re not on #nostr or texting, you’re unlikely to be a big blip on my radar.
Same I make a list in notes
I was doordashing Friday and had to pick up from McDonald's. There was about 30 people inside in line or at tables. I noticed everyone had their phone out, except the older lady reading a book in the corner. And I mean everyone...So I stood there taking it all in...And that's when it hit me....
The cool thing about the internet is I can see and experience things I'll never get to in life, because I'm using my phone and not doing what needs to be done to LIVE those experiences.
I'm considering getting a flip phone and leaving it in my truck so I can enjoy the best of both worlds.
This so true. Took me a long time before I can detach from my phone, so that I can start going out without it or even forget to take it sometimes.
And you really don’t speak on the phone? 🤙
I put data and a cell line on my apple watch just for that reason. Seems crazy to pay for it, but it liberates me from my phone and lets me leave the house without it. Can open my car door with the watch, use apple pay, stream music etc. but cut email and social media. Game changer… $15/month to free my mind when i leave the house and regain attention span. Totally worth it. I take my kindle a lot and read a book when i’m out and about waiting for something.
In the past (almost a decade ago) I often intentionally took my dogs to a walk without my phone so I can be in the present with them. A good 20-40 min walk after work sniffing lamp posts and grass.
Then I found out there are podcasts and if I do not listen to one I feel I am missing out an opportunity to learn what is a fake feeling as I do not remember almost anything of what I listen to :D
So for a year now I try to get hooked off and even if I have my phone with me and walking or driving doing it in silence. Sometimes it is nice, but hard to get off the juice.
I like the watch-phone back-up idea.
I also tried to find a phone what has e-ink display, has 5G capability for GPS but does not support much else over maybe reading ebooks. No luck yet or maybe I just don't trust enough of the brands who currently provide something similar.
True. It’s a sad environment when walking in public and look around. People engage less with each other. Same in the gym. Everyone is on their phone during breaks.
To be honest, I really don't even need a phone number. I take my phone with me to the grocery store, however, because that's where I keep my grocery list.
