È un pensiero che ho avuto spesso anche io e tuttora me lo chiedo, però mi domando, in caso di furto del PC o dí hardware Wallet non è più difficile per il male intenzionato accedere all’hardware Wallet piuttosto che al PC? Ovviamente parlando di persone comuni che magari non hanno abilità per proteggere a dovere il pc…
Se il PC é criptato con LUKS (linux te lo fa fare quando lo installi) ha comunque una protezione fortissima e soprattutto non é esteticamente un hardware wallet ma solo un vecchio PC con linux criptato.
Ho trovato un progetto che si chiama airgap.it sostanzialmente trasforma un vecchio smartphone in un signer, con un wallet multifirma ho avuto qualche problema, ma direi che il suo lavoro lo fa.
Ovviamente il telefono non deve avere sim e wifi.
Direi che la cifratura del wallet sul pc con aes256 mi sembra sostanzialmente impossibile da rompere, chiaro il password non deve essere "pippo"
Se si vuole esagerare anche i vault di kde vanno benissimo.

Even if your drive is not encrypted, most wallets would be encrypted anyway. For example wasabi wallet is encrypted. So the only way to steal your funds would be to read the unencrypted contents that live for a limited period of time in the RAM. This is a possibility, since once in a while some bugs are discovered where processes can access other processes memory. But the probability of this happening to you is low.
Buy couple of cheep usb sticks, install tails, setup wallet, clone the stick as many times as needed.
