Having someone else curate your feed is the same as volunteering for a lobotomy.

If you don’t like raw information, then you are exactly the type of person who can’t handle the truth.

The truth is ugly and scary and confusing.

Knowing the truth is a sign of courage, not intelligence. Most intelligent people choose to swim in mass-delusion, because they lack courage.

If you want to live in a sanctuary, that’s OK. But know you are pretending to know anything about the world.

That is to say, I would expect a majority of people to opt for the lobotomy, few have courage.

What’s your point?

I just wish we could coach people to be braver.

How can we fix things if people choose ignorance?

I don’t see what muting hate speech has to do with choosing ignorance 🤷‍♂️

It’s more likely the people on the receiving end of such shit are least ignorant and just want to not deal with it again.

I’m a white male who never has to deal with bs other people must put up with.

Even if they are perfectly capable of muting assholes, you still have to hear it first - and why, when you don’t have to?

I simply like mute. It’s in my control and I like that. I read/listen first then mute later. I am my own algorithm if that makes sense?

Couldn't disagree more. Maybe you have a lot of free time on your hands but I don't want to spend 99% of mine combing through "raw information".

Human time is the scarcest resource. Delegating curation is just being pragmatic. The key here is the word "voluntary": you are alwayd free to disable it, delegate to someone else or do it yourself.

Agreed. 100% transparency and full user control is key.

You can be at the opposite end of the spectrum to me, that’s OK.

I decided to follow a bunch of people and thus curated my own feed.

It seems you have done the same? But you would delegate this if you had to do it again?

You would prefer someone else to point your eyeballs for you?

I would not see any value at all in my feed if it was curated by someone else. If I’m going to spend 1 hour looking at it, I’m going to spend 10 minutes of that time at the end curating / improving it to better serve my self interests for next time I look at it.

I can’t imagine having someone else deciding what is important / valuable for my attention.
