Gave up on umbrel on my piece of crap pi that sounds like it's running full fan capacity 24/7. just gonna stick with core.

If you add lightning and core. it is a matter of time before the pi can't keep up. Pick up a n100 intel mini pc low power and easy to spec out zero problems.
Ya looking at nucs but decided not to for now. I have another pc just sitting around most of the time and figure I’ll use that for the time being
I have an old laptop I would like to make a node. Any idea where to find a guide on how to do this?
A node runs 24/7/365 so laptops aren't the best for that. A cheap used dell optiplex 9020 8G 2TB SSD will be great node box. Start9 DIY is a great place to start.

I ran a pi on umbrel for a few years and I only used it as a node. It was always unreliable, have to do restarts to get it to resync with the block chain.
I recently swapped out the pi for a start9 pc and I have been very happy with it so far.
I’m now running a full node and lighting node and it has been rock solid with no issues.
My umbrel+pi got corrupted by helping me find out my power isn't stable. Now, I have a pi battery and a single zombie channel I've been putting off closing (I know I have the channel data somewhere...)

I have one of these that I built into a beefy box that was just sitting around. Now it's my dedicated node haha. A little overkill but oh well 
I like tinkering with hardware, so yeah use what you got. I just turned a dell into a start9 server. Was a different full node build before. Flashed some thinkpads for varoius projects. Gotta run real gear for real world.

I have an old Lenovo laptop that I strip naked. Umbrel was always having problems, Start9 even worse. I installed a fresh Ubuntu, core and LND and it works like a charm.
