Question...

I've never consolidated all my #Bitcoin UTXOs

This morning I ran a test transaction moving .01 BTC into a fresh unused address.

I see that the TX ID pulled sats from 4 of my old wallet addresses.

How does the Bitcoin blockchain work, unless specified, is this a First in First out UTXO system?

It depends on the wallet. A good one should allow "coin control" so you choose the UTXOs.

Right..👍

All dependent on the wallet. Choose one with UTXO selection.

You can use a wallet like sparrow to send specified utxos. This is called “coin control” and I highly recommend learning about it/using it.

So much to learn, and I've already learned so much. When does it end!?!?

I’d think about it as when will learning enough end. And it’s not too far away probably. The amount isn’t infinite :)

And to be fair, there is a ton to learn to use USD fully.

I hear ya. If you stop leaning, you stop truly living.

The blockchain doesn’t pick which UTXOs are part of a spend tx. Your wallet does. If you are going to consolidate, you should use a “wallet” that allows you to pick each UTXO. If you want to speak, DM me and I can provide a cell number to explain.

Gracias! 🤙🏽

Ahh. I'm fked. I've not labeled my addresses over the years so it's basically just going result in a consolidation of a few traceable addresses if someone were to take the time to do the forensics.

I'm just a boring #Bitcoin HODLing shrimp 🍤 anyway.

You are a bitcoiner. đź«‚

If you are able to, check out Sparrow Wallet - you’ll get total control over your UTXO set, and you can tag UTXOs, for example being able to separate out KYC UTXOs from non-KYC etc. Sparrow also makes it easy to do UTXO consolidation, and you can make sure you keep your UTXOs grouped by KYC/non-KYC when you consolidate so you don’t mess up your privacy.
