It sounds insane but this is what it has come to in the traditional music distribution space. Bad incentives create bad outcomes. But I truly believe #nostr publishing and sats as a filter / signal mechanism will solve most of these problems for independent artists. Until others are ready to leave the old and crazy world behind, we will keep building, zapping and writing music from the heart.
Came across this mini-documentary made by an independent musician about the pitfalls, negligence and even attack vectors musicians are exposed to when using centralized platforms and distribution services. I had no idea that many of these problems even existed. Unfortunately the filmmaker does a great job at identifying the problem, but does not offer any solutions. For me, it goes to show why we need #nostr, #demu, and #v4vmusic. I almost want to email the filmmaker and let him know this realm exists! Give it a watch if you are an artists or v4vj. https://youtu.be/plleJ0Zv0Ww?si=fXPp1CYvaLKakWy0

Automatic "poor mans" copyright also?
Expand
Back in the day some musicians would send their lyrics to themselves in a certified letter and keep it sealed. This provided a time stamp of a sort. It was known as a poor mans copyright. I was thinking that posting original music on nostr would serve the same purpose because it is decentralized. Sorry if off topic, the thought occurred to me when I saw your post.
Copyright is automatic upon creation. Years ago I used to registered-mail music on CDR to myself before releasing which provided evidence of my claim if required.
Its exciting to see new apps and things being built for nostr and podcasting 2.0 and how these things can enhance the experience for both artists and fans. You have been in this space much longer than us and I am sure have seen much progress. Still lots more progress to be made but the infrastructure I think will prove to be superior than what most people are used to.
Yes, and don't forget the government control mechanisms.

Awesome, will check it out!
This looks really cool. So if you upload a track, does it automatically create an RSS feed or does the music just live on relays?
By default music lives on relays but you can turn RSS generation on when it's apropriate. We expect many artists to already have RSS feeds so we didn't want to suddenly mess up your setup. One cool thing you can do it to import your existing RSS feed to distribute music over Nostr protocol.
