I passed up a buck on opening day, and then had several days without having a shot at anything.
Then this guy walked through this morning.

Please take this as a real question not meaning to be condescending but what does it feel like to murder something so big? I’ve killed a squirrel and it felt pretty bad. I also killed a bird with a slingshot it was a rush of adrenaline as I let the rock fly then a joy explosion when it hit the bird then gut wrenching regret and a feeling of overwhelming guilt. I stopped eating meat about six months ago and will start up again as soon as I kill the cow and chop it up myself. Thanks for the thought provoking post! Have a rad day
Well, there is a bit of a feeling of sadness for taking the life of a beautiful animal. But it is outweighed by a feeling of pride and gratitude.
Pride in my prowess and skill in moving quietly and shooting accurately, in testing myself against a creature that has senses much keener than my own. Pride that I can secure meat for myself and my family. Gratitude that I have the ability and means to hunt, and land on which to do so. And gratitude that the deer was created for the purpose of providing sustenance for man.
Thanks for sharing your insights. I suppose if all the farmers and gardens failed I might have to do the same. For now the only thing I shoot is a camera and the occasional potato gun 😎 have a rad day!
Good shot and beautiful buck. Enjoy the meat it provides and maybe a new trophy on the wall for the story and memories. thank you for reminding people the 30-30 is a useful cartridge
Beautiful!
A beast, well done. Special to be able to take a beautiful creature like that and feed yourself and your family with true organic meat.
Glorious
