I wasn't to talk theology, philosophy, business, money, and politics. Who'd be good connections for those topics?

Yo, thanks!

You’re welcome! 🤙

Hello James

Hello, hodlcuban!

I'm interested in those categories

Religion: I am a Spinozan

Philosophy: Aristotelian

Money: Goldbug

Business: Graham-ite value investor

Politics: Rothbardian

I don't know how many goldbugs you'll find here, I personally respect gold for what it is, and think in the situation of fiat blowing up gold will prove to have been a perfect hedge. Though, outside of explaining its accomplishments or as an example of the value of sound money and its impacts on society, I don't really pay it any attention or recommend it to people.

You'll find many rothbardians, saifadean and nostr:npub10vlhsqm4qar0g42p8g3plqyktmktd8hnprew45w638xzezgja95qapsp42are public figures on it. Aristotle is certainly foundational to the culture here though isn't mentioned much, though Robert Breedlove has probably talked at length about it. Greg Foss will definitely scratch the value investing itch with his talk of junk bonds, risk adjusting investment decisions etc. Spinozan, that's a new word for me, I think you'll find that around, maybe nostr:npub1r0fj5wr200n0dz9nm37ysrhuy8xeg66ratq5hf960q62caaz8e5sqpuzz3 would be a good place to start, I think the real Alan watts would have enjoyed the topic, and nostr:npub1flm9yc3vhc3dj036pn3ysl5xwd4f5gyhyjnn9rzehs5mqe9y9ynq6qrg9qwould provide worthy criticisms; this space is certainly more open to the idea than more conservative circles that would consider Spinoza a hieratic if they knew his beliefs.

A lot of the individuals aren't nostr bound yet, but their ideas are discussed here and you'll find yourself at home talking about them, though gold is a bit unfairly ridiculed at times.

Yeah nostr is very much my people, even if y'all do believe in this "Bitcoin" stuff

I'm not opposed to gold backed currency. That's way better than fiat garbage monopoly money, but it lacks cross-border permissionlessness. I say the Texan digital gold is competition to USD, and that can't be a terrible thing. I think they'll eventually be replaced by Bitcoin, but maybe when the tech has matured.

Yeah I think it's possible that block chain + gold could be a thing

Part of my logic is that if I'm wrong, gold should never go to zero - it's a useful metal. But Bitcoin could go to zero.

Gold can't go to zero but it can take a serious hair cut (its industrial use case can't support current prices), I think the reality is that will take generations though and it has high potential for upside compared to fiat vehicles in the mean time. I am highly skeptical of gold backed crypto, the neat part about bitcoin is it doesn't require trust; I know its scarce, I know its real, I know its secure. A gold backed crypto would just be someone's SQL database, adding crypto into the mix just obfuscates who the trusted party is, I'd rather deal with someone issuing literal paper or digits against my gold than someone saying its "crypto".

When you say you know it's real

What do you mean by "real"?

Have you found a deposit of Bitcoinium?

No, but it would be a hell of a lot more sexy if you could right? It does seem pretty drab that we envision bitcoin mining like some dwarven metropolis extracting bitcoin from earths essence, and then the reality is its a bland silver box making heat.

I mean its real in the sense that I can prove it is a fraction of the total supply of actual bitcoin, I know it is not a forgary someone is trying to dump on me.

How do you know the total supply of Bitcoin is real?

The code that every node runs to ensure the correct amount is created during every block (6.25 right now), the total number of blocks between havings (210,000), and the number of havings until the subsidy is done (50 I think). If any block is created attempting to alter this supply schedule it will not be accepted by nodes.

Cool! Just followed you. We might have some interesting conversations 🤙

Stephen Hicks - He touches on many of those topics. Let's get him on Nostr.
