GM,Nostr! ☀️☀️☀️

Yesterday I saw some Brazilian friends posting that they agreed with the decision of banning X from Brazil.

It’s horrifying how some people have no idea of how freedom is important. Most of them see our current president as a savior, and others thought Elon Musk deserved to be “stopped” because he was trying to destroy our “sovereignty” by not obeying Brazilian laws.

Well well, I thought of talking to them about it but I know, based on previous experience, that people like them won’t listen. When you have to defend the importance of freedom to people, it feels like you’re preaching to flies about how honey is better than shit. I don’t think they would listen. However, I decided to post about Nostr to see if people would be interested. Just three people liked the post. 😓

They’re not ready for this conversation.

The majority of people on Instagram are totally brainwashed and immersed on ignorance. That’s why they’re always posting happy selfies…it’s like their brains turned into plastic. I am disappointed but not surprised.☹️ You might ask yourselves why do I still have an account on ig and fb,but most people here use them as a way of staying in touch with their friends and family. I confess I am afraid of expressing myself more deeply and being labeled as “far right”.

Anyways,if any of you have experienced anything similar, please share with me.

Maybe I’m not the only one going through that.

Have a wonderful Sunday! 💜

Not that I have tried but for me my friends and family are going to be hard to have them switch to #Nostr.

Gm 👋

I think we've all experienced something similar. When you find the answer, let us know.

I've found we're not here to fix a broken world or to fix broken people. We're here to focus on what we do want, lead by example and have fun along the way.

Each person is on their own journey to escape the illusion. I can relate to your experience nearly every single day of my life. It can be hard if it's friends, family, or loved ones. It's hard not telling them, "I fucking told you so" years later. Some you will give the slow golf clap for, while others you will have to laugh at. Standing on the outside isn't always easy.

This is really sad, and it’s clear that many people haven’t grasped the real implications of this situation yet. Imagine if it were the other side pushing for censorship. Regardless of which side is in power, or who holds the reins today, this should never be accepted.

Censorship is a dangerous tool that can easily be used against anyone, and supporting it now could lead to a future where your own voice is silenced.

We stand here for freedom, and NOSTR is our tool.

GM Farfa! Have a nice sunday 😸☕

You too dear ☀️💜

The 'Mandrik frens', or, the in-real-life friends that rest in the comfort of meta-services.

I just let them be; once a month I go back and post a something and address them where I can be found, from time to time some reach to me to ask what's up.

The rest, I don't bother them; each certainly might deal with life the way they see fit; that could being, social media and the internet not being so important.

As for me, as much as I can have them, it still can be lonely if there's no middle ground to hang out; but then again, one can not demand them more than what they're whiling to give.

First the bitcoin frens, now the nostr frens; here that 'missing piece of the puzzle' is found. Here I could talk topics that nowhere else; so the solitude fades.

I would say one doesn't has necessarily to cancel the other.

The first sentence is where everything you've written falls apart. Where do you get the idea of having X available = Freedom? It's a platform managed by a very small group of people.

I’m not talking about X meaning freedom, never said that and never meant that. What I’m saying is that it’s not ok to ban a social media. This is not normal or acceptable.

IMO it's totally OK to ban "social media" where a foreign entity can dictate what is being popularised and what is being suppressed. I'm not even sure how did we all accept that it's ok that an unknown "algorithm" that is managed by a small group of people can decide what's going on in the world.

This is so deep and complex. People value different things. I think our understanding of what’s wrong or right is intrinsically attached to our morals. I don’t think it’s ok to ban social media neither blame algorithms or foreign entities as if they were the devil because they aren’t. They’re just business. The governments (most of them) just seek power and control. They’re not interested in bettering anything for the common people, but to take advantage of the population. Governments will use social media for its own benefit and will ban the ones which don’t benefit them. Brazil was under dictatorship during the 60s. Those times still remains in the in the back of the mind of Brazilians who lived under censorship and torture. Also I believe that freedom of speech is human right.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you on most of what you say. I'm from Turkey, so I also know my fair share of how horrible censorship and dictatorship during 60's till 2000's.

I totally agree that freedom of speech is human right and needs to be preserved at all costs.

The only point we disagree is whether a U.S. based entity can provide free speech or not.

I get your point. My criticism is to the Brazilian government,I’m not defending twitter nor Elon Musk. It’s the act of prohibiting something just because it benefits them, because if they really wanted to defend democracy and fight crime, they would start from the basics, such as not allowing prisoners to have cellphones and internet connection. Many of them, from the jail, still command groups of drug dealers and commit many crimes. A government that is truly committed to protecting its people wouldn’t allow those things to happen.

I mean all fair. I was in brasil 4-5 years ago where I wasn't even suggested to walk in the streets. But then I attribute most of the issues South America is having to the northern neighbour. Anything that I've read about how U.S. acts towards anything positive in Center/South America feels incredibly wrong.

That's more than acceptable. This must be the norm. You believe in “freedom of speech” as a parameter to reach a developed society. Sorry but you are being too naïve here. Within an underdeveloped society like Brazil where majority of people cannot even interpret a fairy tale, your freedom of speech and social media will be weaponized and repeat 2014, to deploy as many “springs” as the Hegemon desires. People want housing, health, public security, food, a job, and have some pleasure to live without debts. Twitter is not a thing to 90% of Brazilians. And when their real issues became critical, they don’t need social media to ask for, they will just take all over the streets.

What I’m talking about is how governments have become totalitarian and have been constantly trying to control the way people communicate and express their ideas.

Yep same experience. I think it's more important to keep the door open for them to come if they want, rather than try to convince them to come through. It's their responsibility to protect themselves and you're not to blame if they don't. Some people won't ever get there in spite of all our efforts.

Never be afraid to speak what you feel is true, even if they dismiss you for it. Truth needs to be tested and refined, if it's kept secret it will never get that chance.

Have a wonderful Sunday 💜

You too, dear! Thanks for your words. 💜
